Hi,
On removal of the cam followers I see that the machining on the face (at the mating surfaces) is different from 180 degrees around.
Then I find the other barrel follower the other way around ..... So
1. Does it make any difference which way there fitted
2. If so what is the correct position

And, if they’re the existing ones being re-used, you should put them back in whence they came.

Worn cam followers can give better performance than new ones because the wear sometimes increases the duration of the valve timing. Years ago we had a Speed Twin Triumph which had followers that were worn hollow. We welded them up with Cobalite and reshaped them - but changed nothing else. The bike went slower.

Correct however it will also become increasingly harsh on cam and followers.

If the followers are worn hollow and the tappets are adjusted back to the correct clearance, the lift remains the same and the timing duration changes. Why are there two types of followers in early 650 Triumph engines ? The 'R - type' have larger radius than the standard. With the bigger radius, the lobe of the cam moves the follower earlier and allows it to return later. If you grind the followers flat, the performance of the engine changes even more.
