Cam choice

I am looking at some cams for my 73 750 Commando. Just wanting a streetable cam with more power. Has anyone tried the megacycle 560-N-R?

I think it's identical to the Axtell 5S which I use in my race bike. I couldn't tell the difference to the 4S I had previously.

I have the JS motorspots Stage 1 radius cam with the BSA Llifters. This is a copy of the Axtel 3 except for the radius profile. Similar to the 560nr and the PW3. Go here to read more on this great set up. http://www.jsmotorsport.com/technical_CamLifters.asp

I find this stronger than stock on the low end with a surprisingly smooth idle. And then when 4000 comes around, off we go.

Be ready to do all the needed cam timing stuff. I think anything other than a stock cam, and maybe even then, takes some cam timing adjustment. Don't assume. Going with the radius cam and lifters required a 15 degree advancement.

pvisseriii, do you mean at full advance, setting the timing to 43 degrees BTDC ??? (instead of the stock 28 degree) Just curious, as I'm thinking of going with one of those megacycle 560-N-R cams with their radius lifters. Thanks in advance ...

No ignition timing stays stock.

What he means is that the radius on the lifters affects how the cam opens compared to flat lifter.

Ignition time is different the cam timing. Checking my records I see I advanced the cam 10 degrees.
Half way down this page explains different combination for this procedure.

I did it a little different. back 2 teeth on the cam sprocket(-80 degrees) and add 6 teeth on the crank gear (+90 degrees) netting + 10 degrees.

Megacycle's NR cam runs with flat cam followers (Non Radiused)

I need to look before I do the final timing, but I believe it's a drop-in cam that you don't compensate for with modified cam timing.

I have the good old Norton 4s cam, plus radiused lifters in my Combat. Very smooth. Broader than the 2s.
Works fine with 22th sprocket and two up.
Had to tidy up the Cam Tunnel a bit with a Dremmel to be sure it would fit. No other issues.
