Buzz words that annoy me

A new word I heard recently is "event" IE going to an event is what teenagers say when they are meeting up in a group at a house party or McDonald's or round the back of a bus shelter
What time are you going to the event FFS
Well, it kinda fits. So many live a pathetic life under their "helicopter Mom" 's wing. Going to McD's without Mom, and actually seeing NON-virtual/digital friends IS an event for them.

The "F" word integrated as every third word of a sentence.
Ebonics.
Rap lyrics advocating the demise of women and/or police officers.

Sloppy lazy language relates directly to a lack of informed or quality thinking.

Like when I am in the shop trying to tighten the intake manifold bolts on my Commando and my gradkids have been standing behind me only I didn't know it because I was not wearing my hearing aids and they run inside to share their new words with their grandmother.

I used to think dumber than a box of rocks was just an expression till I watched that video clip.

When I was in secondary school, my favourite subject was Latin. So I usually comprehend very well. What realy amuses me is British innuendo. They can say so many things which when take at face value can mean something entirely different from their intent. My mate was an ex-pat Pom - he said 'with them, it is an art-form'. In Australia, when we do that, it is usually not intentional - jusrt slang.

What really annoys me is the habit of using abbreviations. Like PITA, SCOTUS, GOB, UFM.
Makes it difficult when English is your second language.
Especially when Google don't help. And short forms can have different meaning depending on context.

In 'Classic' vehicle 'ad speak': 'Part of a private collection' = The seller owns more than one vehicle.

And: Ideal 'Starter' Classic...... (Usually attached to something questionable on all counts)

Well, the SCOTUS is a PITA so it's GOB by UFM!
Does that help? ;)

:rolleyes: Google gives differing translations of the above, some of which wouldn't suit a family friendly forum ....

GOB = A lump of soft or sticky material
UFM = Ultimate f*ck music

Abbreviations certainly are a PITA ..... I suppose SCOTUS would defend the right to use them
