BSA b44/50

Here's a photo of it before I put it on the ramp
I have an 8" TLS front wheel to fit it now
And I've ordered a shorter speedo cable
I'm planning to make a points cover with a tacho drive from the points center bolt

A nice classic looking build. Only thing I'd like to change is that I believe it would look even better if you had the headlamp a small bit lower, Hopefully a riders report will come.

Hmmm funny you should say that about the headlight it does look a bit high but I think it must be the camera angle or something because the headlight brackets and the fork shrouds are genuine gold star

But this is subtle, and all the better for it IMHO.. Take it to Battlesbridge and park it next to the Goldies, they'll have a purple fit!
The last time I was at battlesbridge I was on my A10
I was talking to a bloke that had a beautiful export road rocket
He was ok until he noticed my 4ls front brake!!
He said what's that from ?
I said a Suzuki kettle
He turned on his heel and walked off in shock
Didn't say anything more,just walked off :D :D :D :D :D

I usually use the car park at bike shows (though the lure of free entry sometimes overwhelms!).
I can't be doing with the scrutiny.....

I was in the car park
I don't generally put my bike in a show
i did once go into the show because they waved me in I think I was on my thunderbird chop but I can't remember
That was years ago

Had a bit of a setback today
I haven't started the engine for a good 3 months and today I started it to strobe the ignition
And whilst running the motor I took the oil tank cap off and found the oil was not returning
It was fine last time I ran it
When I get time I'll check the oil pickup and the the timing cover anti drain valve before investigating the oil pump
Does anyone have any suggestions of what else to check?

Oil pick up in sump first, probe to ensure the anti drain back ball is free to move upwards and visually check for surplus gasket goo gumming it up, a full sump of oil will be first clue before you even start probing. 95% likely its this, to check feedside just remove the OPRV and kick the bike over and oil should appear in the cavity, that covers oil pump feedside and the timing cover anti drain valve with little dismantling required.

Hopefully there's zero chance of gasket goo in the pickup pipe as I don't really use the stuff except sparingly on the outer timing covers
I'll check everything out when I get back to the bike probably tomorrow

All is well again
One thing I had failed to mention in my post was the bike had fallen on its side and was there for a couple of days without my knowledge and very luckily not damaged
I didn't mention this because I didn't think it relevant
But what I now realized happened was while the bike was on its side left side all the sump oil had gone into the chaincase and out through alternator inspection cover which was removed
So although the oil tank had oil there was none in the sump
Had I ran the engine a few more seconds it would have started returning
It's fine now phew!!!

Before firing up the bike this afternoon I removed the spark plug and spun the motor over with a drill until oil started to return to the tank
The sump was completely dry from when the bike had been on its side
And this happened a few weeks ago the anti drain valve in the timing cover really does work well
It's way better than the MK3 commando timing cover one !! So
then I fired it up and all is well

What else did you have to do to get the B50 in the B44 frame? Details please!

Ditto on the Starfire 250 please . Will a B - 50 lump ' drop in ' or is the bottom end a differant cup of tea . ?

No the b50 lump will not drop straight into a Starfire frame
The front mount and bottom mount will fit
It's just the rear mounts that need widening
Even the oil feed/return is ok
