Broken again

I realize my earlier reply to this may have sounded a bit snippy. But there really is no choice but to take off the cover and see what you find. Take photos, be careful and thorough in your examination. Then someone here can most likely help figure out why something went wrong. But as is, there is no clue as to whether parts broke, jammed or are not assembled correctly. This could actually be a symptom of something else going on with the gearbox. But it literally can't be diagnosed with the cover on.

Thanks for the help on my not broken shifter.
PJ - sorry for the thread derail - I was genuinely trying to give helpful advice "while you're in there".
I'll start a new thread next time!

I am also guilty of derailing and hijacking.
My gearbox is partially dismantled so I may be of some help.
One thing I noticed is that the kickstart pawl can be installed upside down! Not sure if it would work at all like that but it may have worked for a few starts.

Just sayin'

If this happens intermittently, does it seem to be associated with the gearbox being warm?

BTW - I have made pdf files of the Old Britts:
1. Gearbox Checklist (36Kb)
2. Dismantling Gearbox (1.1Mb)
3. Assembling Gearbox (1.9Mb)

..so - too big to post here

I made them so I could have a hard copy in my workshop (no computer).
If anyone would like copies PM me with your email address.

It goes without saying that Old Britts have done the Norton community a big favour in publishing this... and yes, I do buy parts from them.

Cheers
Rob

My pawl was upside down (installed in a field in pouring rain!) It worked fine for some time then it didn't!!.Perfect after fitting the right way up.
