I am rebuilding my 1970 Norton Commando Roadster from the ground up and doing some minor improvements as I go along. Not going to be 100% stock.
I decided to add an extra bulb and made them both LED, which are very flat and fit in nicely.
Here is a link to my Video blog of the restoration of the Brighter Clock Fix and demonstration. If you are interested.
thank you

Pretty good mate. Can you tell us where you got the bulbs and the fittings [ inc part numbers ] from. Is there room to fit 3 LED's. Looks like another one at the top would be handy as that's where most of the action wil be.

Seems to me someone filled the clocks with a ring of LED's quite a while ago.

Yeah, where did you get the holders from?

I got the holders on EBAY out of Florida. Here is the Listing Tittle so you can find it:LUCAS PILOT LIGHT BULB HOLDER BSA TRIUMPH NORTON AJS MATCHLESS ARIEL VELOCETTE
They are $6.95 each. I used these holders because the ground is isolated and does not touch the frame so you can wire it to the original wiring with the positive ground. The LED has to be wired with the negative ground.

Bulbs are $4.99 and free shipping for all 4. Listing on EBAY out of California:4x White COB LED Bulb Ba9s 53 57 1815 Instrument Dash Speedo Lights 12V

And don't think there is room to put 3 Bulbs in.

Thanks for that. I haven't had one of these apart to check what can be done. Perhaps when I was only 20, those lights were good enough, but now i am 65, they are barely up to it. I still do a lot of my riding around here at night because its cooler in the summer, and usually the only free time is at night as well.

I attempted to look for the previous threads on these lights as Dogt had mentioned, but didn't have the necessary skills to perform that task . I did a bloody lot of reading though.

I also run a Nighthawk [ trucklite ] Headlight so I should not have charging problems.

All the best for Christmas

Dereck

Another option is to use a bright 360 degree LED. I got these from Superbrights.com. Single bulb in each instrument.

That's bright. I am going to check into those bulbs as well. The light seems to be very even around the gauge as well.

That's insane. Do they have a part number?

These are wedge bulbs in Veglia clocks. I believe the Smiths use bayonets, so I'm not sure what those guys will use. The wedge bulb holders (which were already in the clocks, and should be available) have two wires and do not ground to the case, which is important for the LEDs to work.

They also come in cool white, but I have not tried them yet.

Just out of curiosity has anyone seen gauges like these before? They have the proper identifying numbers on the face but there are no logos what so ever.

Pete

On the older clocks I use these to allow use of LEDs, 2 wires and isolated. Made by Lucas and out of a car.

On the MK2a with the Vaguelia clocks I use LED T5 bulbs which again are isolated.

No, the fitting is the same size as the single wire version fitted to bikes using the speedo casing as an earth, considering the case is painted you do not get a good contact anyway.

WARNING!!!!!!.......I just took apart the speedometer today and the plastic gear which drives the odometer is in the way on the speedometer for the 2nd bulb. I am going to make a smaller hole slightly lower and silicone the holder in place. I will post the results when finished.
