Okay I've searched here for an answer to my question without results. So I need to ask a basic question of you guys. Does a Norton take any kind of special brake fluid or just plane old DOT 3 ?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

Based on boiling points, 3 is adequate, 4 is better, 5.1 is better yet. 5.0 is not generally recommended since it is not compatible with the other types, frequently is accused of being spongy, and is not suitable for ABS systems (though that last point is not applicable to the Commando.)

I'm using Dot 5 synthetic front and rear with no complaints. Brakes are not stockers though. My Triumph chop will run on DOT 5 as well so i don't have to fuss about with having more than 1 type on hand.

I've been using some purple dot 5 that I got at the gocart store. It's in 3 bikes, and working as good or better than dot 3. On the plus side it also dosn't eat paint. So for me it has worked better than advertised. FYI all 3 bike systems were completly stripped, cleaned and re-sealed.

I switched to DOT 5 after a total rebuild of the front disc system. No problems at all after 18 months and 2000 miles.

I have to add that I tried switching to Dot 5 on my 996 Ducati and it was terrible at Lime Rock- mushy as heck and I switched back to DOT4. Brembo does not recommend Dot 5 for their brakes.
