Hi,
Just took on a "no spark" problem for a guy with a 70 Triumph 500. Bike is fitted with the old analog Boyer system.
Anyway, did not take long to figure out that one of the pick up coils was bad. The question is, are those coils / pick up plate / box, available seperately, if so where. I could just sell the guy the pick up plate that I had previously removed from my Norton, but then I'll just have half a system laying around on my shelf. Info appreciated, thanks.

You may already be aware of this, but Boyers are very prone to the lead wires from the pickup coils breaking inside the insulation near where it's soldered to the coil. The insulation remains intact, so you won't find it visually.
 
Problem is, if you replace the whole pickup plate you'll be convinced it was the coil that failed. I don't know if Boyer is still soldering the pickup wires, but if they are the same problem will occur.

Thanks for the replies. I know for certain that it is not the leads but the little pick up coil itself. I have the plate off in my hand and doing the continuity checks through the soldered connections on the back. Each coil on a good plate is approximately 68 Ohms, checked from lead to lead both coils in series show approximately 135 Ohms. One coil on the bad plate shows no continuity. The connections for the leads are soldered to the board as are the connections for each coil. The coils are also held on by a small metal strap over each one which is also held in place by solder.
I plan on attending the motorcycle swap meet in Keene, NH this coming Sunday (May 6th) maybe by some shear stroke of luck I'll find a Boyer pick up plate among the tons of junk that will be laid out to sort through.

I'm not certain where you are taking the continuity checks from. You need to check the 16ga. wires themselves. Attach one lead of the meter where the solder connection to the coil is and the other lead at the bullet connector. Shake the wire. It should read a steady zero ohms.
