Boyer or Tri-spark

MWOO - I'm curious what coils you're using with your tri-spark system and what is your plug gap? I'm also shopping for an electronic ignition and would like to find a system (box and coils) that will fire fire plugs gapped at .035-.040. I've always been of the opinion that the big spark at that gap setting will smooth over a lot of carburation inaccuracies. I've inquired with Pazon and Tri-spark both but have yet to get a reply. TVMI.

Cheers

TriSpark recommends keeping the .025 gap on a Commando. I have their classic twin unit and two of their latest coils (heavy lil' buggers).

Most (all?) of the aftermarket ignitions are intended for use with original coils and therefore 3-4 amps of primary current. To reliably fire a wide gap you need more plug voltage, and to sustain the spark you need more energy. All of which requires more coil current and therefore special coil and driver. I don't know if such a thing exists for a Brit twin.

Hi Chaps - I use standard Lucas 6v coils with my Tri-Spark - plugs are gapped to 25 thou (standard) - I'm interested in the Tri-Spark Coils - any info on cost ?

this is from steve as I had a question on how long it keeps the coil energized.

Dear Windy,

The coils are energised for 10mS before firing (that's 10 one-thousandths of
a second). This figure reduces slightly as the revs go up as we reach the
practical limitation of charge time before the next firing is required. It's
time not degree related. We have done extensive testing to determine the
time that will be required to fully energize the coil for firing without
wasting power. As a result the power consumption of the unit is very low. At
idle the draw is well below one amp and rises to around 2 amps at full RPM.

Please let me know if you have any other questions,

Regards,

Steve Kelly
