Yes I have owned two Commandos with old style Boyer Ignition.
No problems with either.
There may be better around, now, but if you have them, use them.
There will be plenty of other things to spend your money on.
AC.
There is much wisdom here, AC!
I ran a Boyer mk3 on my 850 for a few years. It was a great improvement over points. Along with ditching the worn twin Amals for a Mikuni it was the best ££ I'd spent on the bike to that point. Where the Boyer shows its age now is that if the charging system is not up to scratch and the battery voltage drops, it can kick back, very painfully! But compared to points, it is a vast improvement.
On the electric start models, it can wreck the sprag clutch- not that that applies in your case. More recent 'lecky igns have overcome this, including more recent Boyers. So it comes down to whether you want to throw another 200 quid at it or live with the possibilty of the above- which most folk did for a long time!
It must be said in this day and age, you've got to be an originality devotee to run points. If you do alot of miles they need regular maintenance because they wear- and like Amals they wear out quickly. Some folk enjoy the tinkering but I find that just when you enter one of those rare periods of having got everything sorted and running well, this is the kind of British bike fault that will rear its head to spoil your day (usually when all your mates are watching.... :mrgreen

Personally I feel they also make any kind of fault finding a nightmare.
It's Brit bike, it will always require tlc- but a good 'lecky ign will reduce the amount of tlc needed, IMHO.
