any hints where to buy Borrani Rims from? (apart from ebay) and an idea of what would be the right price per each?
cheers

Akronts NLA. (at least in the sizes needed for our Commandos). Morad has Akronts tooling (bought from Akront when they said bye-bye) and are supposedly making the same rims, but alas they are hens teeth as well, tho BritCycles lists them, I just received an email from them this morning that they have no ETA. I'd pop for Excels (also limted sizes at Buchanan's) . but they're anodized and I'd prefer polished alloy.

Sad days for alloy rims in Nortondom

I've seen a place in europe that has all morads in stock, but I can't remember where right now.

you can get excels in anodized, polished, or chromed just depends on how much you want to pay.

I got my Borranis from Woody's Wheel Works in Denver. I don't know if they have any more, but it couldn't hurt to give them a call.

If you are set on finding a set of real Borranis, I think Yoshi at the Garage Company in L.A. Calif has a bunch. I was just there digging through a back room for some stuff and saw a few gazzilion old alloy rims he has saved over the years. Call them at (310) 330-9933 or lock em up at garagecompany.com and you will find anything moto you could want. Any shop that has a ten foot tall display case at the front door full of about 900 vintage racing carbs like monster sized Amal TT's from the 20's thru the 70's is Holy ground to me!

The 40 hole/WM3/18" rims off MotoGuzzi El Dorados, which were common police bikes, have a close enough spoke angle and they come up on Ebay all the time - if you want to go with an 18" rear wheel. 19" fronts are harder to come although lots of flat trackers had spool hub 19" front wheels in 40 hole. As for finding a 19" 40 hole rear wheel, in a large rear hub diameter drilling, that's tough.

hey all,
I'm about to go for 2 Borrani RIMS, only I need to compromise on size:
They are both WM3 18.

I'm happy with WM3 given all the comments in the forum around Rim sizes, and 18 at the back would have been my choice. Not quite sure about 18 at the front, but it looks like a forced choice as I've been searching for Borranis for a while and could not find a cross laced 19 as required to fit the caliper.

So unless you tell me not to I'll send my order through tomorrow...

I had 18" WM3 Borranis front & rear. 110 tyre on the back & 100 on the front. The handling at high speed was crap. Also, dropping the 19" mudguard down didn't really look the proper part as it was a slightly larger radius.
I now have a 19" WM2, 100X90 tyre front & my old Borrani 18" WM3, 110X90 tyre on the back, properly centralised & an ISO head steady. The handling is fantastic. I would really recomend the Metzeler Lazertec on the back, I think it is a wonderful tyre.
If you speak to Norman White, he will go for 18" front & back, 100X90 front & 120X80 back, BT45's, but would prefer a WM4 on the back. He can also build your wheels for you, he did a good job on mine & you can also discuss things with him.

Could you find a cross laced Borrani 19 wm2 ? I've not seen one around for a few weeks now..

Front is a morad/Akront.
I will also add, it is of a lower quality than the Borranni, having a slight kink in it where it is welded together.

have not found Borranis yet (seen loads of ads on ebay but none that would work on a Commando). now found these, which looks really good and they are really cheap (80 euros!). apparently the producer is close to the Borrani factory (I did ask them) but it is not a "proper" Borrani.
Price is crazy cheap and they state quality is far better than the Morad.

Check it out. They are like 500 metres from my home so if you want me to ask questions happy to... (also check the other stuff they sell. looks good...)

Since they are already drilled I am currently checking with Central Wheel Components if the drill pattern is fine for Commandos. Will let you know what they say -if you have an opinion shoot..

Hi guys,
difficult to believe but the search for rims isn't over yet.
Apparently the Italian stuff I posted about earlier is not drilled in a way that would work for the front hub.

So I'm back to:
Morad Akront. --> I keep hearing quality is crap. Have you seen any from the recent production? they tell me it's badly done on the welding can anyone shed some light ?.
Exel -> never seen one for real. Do they look same as Akront/Borrani? Do they have any stamps (I'd rather have a plain rim with nothing on it...)? Can I get them polished instead of anodized?

thanks

I have a pair of NEW Morad 17" deep drop center rims on my custom build. I can say I was disapointed in the build quality. They look nice but there was a HUGE misalignment at the weld. when I went to true them up the weld was almost 1/4 inch out from the rest of the rim. I gave up and sent it to my rim guy, he finally got them, but barely. Other than the seam I am happy with them. I had a pair of excel shouldered rims, they built up nicely and were easy to true. No complaints there. I have a pair of WM3-19 acronts I picked up with 2 different drill patterns, I am hoping I can make them work, if not it's new excel's for me.

how is the excel? is there stuff written on it? (trying to keep a stock look etc... do not want a big MADE IN JAPAN on my rim).

I don't remember, i sold them last year. Contact fred and ella at oldbritts and ask them.

I have an Akront Morad on the front. It is very shiney, pity the weld is crap. Looks buckled when you spin it, trued it up the best I could. Just about acceptable, can't feel it when riding.
Go for something else.
