Now I know what to do with my broken down crappy old fiberglass seat. ...I love this forum.

When it comes to creative endeavors (be it designing graphics or motorcycles) the customer is not always right. They are paying you for your design expertise too. Remember it's your name that will be associated with the design long after the payment is gone.

In this particular case, I believe the results of bobbing the seat were very nice, and I stand by them. As I said, it definitely looks "factory".

As for several other aspects of that bike, I was mainly involved with the engine overhaul, fork rebuild, and wiring which I also stand by. The bike runs really well.

On the GS850 I too the stock seat pan and just cut it down. I then had an upholsterer shorten the stock foam and also trim it down for a lower profile. Then he just covered it.

Some people complain about the look of the Interstate tank, but for me it is the big friggin seat behind it that destroys the lines of the bike. Mark's ideas that I have seen are always well thought out, whether you want them on your bike or not. The cut down seat is a good idea. You occasionally see old seat pans on Ebay cheap. Here is my own version:

It is just a cut down roadster seat with a Old Britts cover restitched to fit. I like that it shows off more fender. Whether you like the look of Grandpaul's cafe bike or not, it gave me an idea for dealing with a frame I have here that is completely missing the rear loop. Maybe I won't replace it after all but turn it into something else.
