Has anyone had experience of the ignition switch causing the fuse to blow? I can turn the ignition on and everything comes on as normal, I can kick her over and she'll start but almost immediately the fuse pops. I've by passed the switch and she'll run ok without blowing the fuse, a bit of a puzzler and it points to the switch being the culprit but just wondering if anyone else has seen this too. The switch was replaced about a year ago thats why i'm wondering if it is the source, all connections have been cleaned and are tight.

If you have a continuity tester of some kind you could take the wires off the ignition switch, turn the key to the run position and start testing the terminals on the back of the switch to its frame to see if one is shorting out.

Now that wasn't so hard. It only took you 4 hrs to fix it.
Not bad for an electrical problem. :D

Hey, I can spend 2 hours trouble shooting the stupid lucas rear brake switch when I want to go riding and want to have the rear brake lamp work. The older I get the faster time goes. When you're 2, one year is half your life, when you're 70 ......

No it took a wee bit longer that 4 hours, I had been at it for a while before I posted.

So who was playing around with the brake switch after the switch was replaced "a year ago" mmmmmh

I think the microswitch has been "Got at" by the " Vibration monster" that lives within, and has finally laid down and died. Its not the proper switch for the bike, as I have rear sets on it's one that "Suited" during the build 2500 miles ago, so instead of the 95p version I might have to go for the £1.50 version which is a wee bit more rugged, no expense spared eh?
I would be interested to see how others with rear sets have the rear brake microswitch mounted and what type they use.

Cheers

Mac.

I replaced the Lucas rear brake switch with a Honeywell micro switch right after the Lucas crapped out.....back in the mid 60's I guess it was. The Honeywell is still going strong...and I have one of those shaky Atlas monsters....er, models.

I guess they don't make Microswitches like that any more.

Good luck finding a suitable replacement...best to buy the best available and avoid hecho en china.
