What is the best way to get back a clean factory finish on drums, particularly front brake drum?

Vapour blasting gives a good finish and closes up the pores making it stay clean for longer.

I scrubbed mine using a toothbrush and Mother's Alloy Polish after first scrubbing it with a detergent. Then rinsed with carburator
cleaner using a clean toothbrush. Looks like new! Much cheaper than paying someone to vapor blast it which, by the way, would
also make it sparkle like new. What you don't want to do is to let cleaning materials dribble into the wheel bearings unless you
plan to remove them for maintenance or replacement.

I used a big wood handled wire brush on the ribs and polished edge where the spokes go with a buffer.
