Opening ceremony went well- cheers Matt:

Things are starting to move along. Wheels almost done at Buchanan's, new tires arrived today (BT45), Brent has finished tank and side panels :)

Cheers

I took both wheels to Buchanan's (30 mins from here). I knew the front was buckled and the offset was off. Last owner relaced using standard 19" rims and stainless spokes. Buchanan's can reuse the SS spokes. They cut and re-threaded the spokes for rear as I am going 18. Theyy said originally spokes came from them.

On my MK2 I have wm3 19 on front and wm4 18 and use BT45's. That bike handles really well so I am fine with the setup. I am using the shouldered excel rims and I asked them to remove the anodizing and polish them. Should get them back next week. It was going to be a budget rebuilt, but I have now officially gone overboard. Today got starter motor , hydraulic clutch (TNX Jim), front and rear brakes and more from Matt :). Brent emailed me earlier to say my tank and side panels are painted too. A good day :) Now I got to earn some money :)

cheers

Actually yes clear coat would make more sense.
Quote from the Buchanan website "These Excel rims come standard with a frosted silver finish and a clear anodize coating."

Like a comment I made in another thread regarding the Sullivan Triumph collection being a reliable "known quantity", the same applies to Buchanan's; definitely THE shop for wheel building.

That is one nice batch of Christmas presents there, Jerry!

Things are looking good :)

Moving slowly forward. Waiting for some parts so I can get rear wheel in and I started work on the motor.

I ran out of money, but have plenty to be getting on with for now :)

Cheers-Jerry

Beautiful-looking parts, Jerry.

Only critical comment is that the beer should be darker - like an Anchor Porter.

I'm obviously not a metallurgist nor did I play one on tv or stay at a Holiday Inn last night but apparently you can clear anodize aluminum. But I think you have to apply a seal.

Bill,

I'm a fan of Anchor Steam, Never tried Anchor Porter. Is that their winter brew?

BTW, have you tried Chimay? I bought a bottle the other day. Saving it for a special occasion. Thirteen bucks for a 25oz. bottle.

O.K., guys. How to I remove the contrasting background, like Bill did in his original picture? Mac OS X 10.8

Anchor Porter is a limited-run, but worth getting if you can find it.

Yes, I've tried Chimay, but my favorite belgian-style are Val Dieu's Triple

Gulden Draak

or Trois Pistoles

These are deceptively drinkable. If you make the mistake of having three, don't get up for a while - you'll find yourself on the floor!

Val Dieu and Gulden Draak are real abbey beers. Trois Pistoles is from Unibroue, a microbrewery in Quebec. They've got a range of world-class beers

I could go on for hours...

Bill,

I fear you area man of discriminating and expensive tastes. Hence, your choice of motorcycles. I see no BMW on your inventory. An oversight, perhaps?
Thanks for the tip on the beers.

I almost bought an R1200R when I got the Speed Triple. I'd love to get an older sporty airhead, but have to get a bigger garage first, which already has a BMW in it (the wife's Mini Coupe).

I had a R1100R. Typical damn BMW. All you do is ride it, never wrench.

Say, Bill, how about giving it up on how you were able to get rid of the contrasting background in the photo of the Anchor Porter.

Ok guys NO more pictures of such quality beers! I'm trying to not drink much so I can get more done. I have sold/lost my house & have 30 days to move so no Fing around. That said, Jerry you know I'm a mile away & would be happy to help if you ever need a third hand. Let me know. Glenn.

Sorry, Jim, It wasn't my doing - that's the way the picture I found was done. Really makes a good beer stand out, though!

No more pics, Glenn
