yeah man, I saw that last night. Hopefully they'll put up a vid of the bike when it's done.

you guys think it will be a race bike or a show bike?

I own the Commando race bike Paul Dobbs used to ride before he was killed. I have had two sets of crank cases made from billett and are in the 2nd season of testing them in the bike. There is currently a batch of five complete sets as per Mark 3 being machined from 6061.

over here in belgium Frank Jordens had a drive side crank case machined from solid
he uses it in his racing outfit for the last 5 years with no apparant problems
He just did it to see if he could do it

The Isle of man takes too many riders.

Sorry to hear about Paul Dobbs - may he rest in peace.

Can anyone (SBR) tell us more about the Norton twin that Paul used to race.

Jim

Herb machined crankcases from billet for a short stroke 750 race bike complete with centre main bearing support and crank with two small flywheels on each side of bearing. Worked well, made good HP but suffered from oiling issues to the centre bearing.

Hi Jim

Never saw Paul on a Commando in the UK but he was awsome on a Scott in vintage racing.
Historic Motorcycle Racing Club. Great bloke who could ride! Loved the Island.
Look out for the film in 3 D as his wife spoke about Paul in a way that touched my heart. Accepting that racing was Paul & a big part of what he lived for.

The owner of the Scott, Roger Moss is in his 70's he is traveling to the Beezumph rally in Wales (as it may be the last one)
to do the 6 sessions Race license class,on the Friday. Then packing up & traveling to Lydden in Kent for the race meeting over the weekend. Bikes the reason for us all to push ourselves.

Interesting to see that others have also seen the need to make cases from billet .A sign of the modern times we live in mabey. The sbr norton is an 80.4 stroke ,750 commando based engine, racer ,using our own cases.Running a stock head with good valves and springs and on methanol fuel the bike is making 80 rear wheel hp.We use a kiwi made tt industries 6 speed magnesium gearbox. This bike has been developed slowly over the last 8 years and currently ridden by top nz Bears rider Steve Bridge #294 of F1E motorcycle works. Both Steve and the late Dobsy #198 ,have had many wins on this bike in N.Z.C.M.R.R and Bears events in NZ and Barry Sheene Festival of Speed events in Australia. We are currently developing a cylinder head to compliment the rest of the engine package.

Always makes me wonder, if someone could make the crankcases to make a Vee four, or even a square four - or even a straight four!
What a bike that would be. What a sound.

Does it go?
I want to hear it. :D

It was running, but the owner parked it a few years ago to make some changes, and hasn't got back to it. I previously posted more info on it somewhere on the forum, but I don't have the link. You can probably find it by searching for V4 or V-4 Norton.

Ken

I can't seem to find my post about the V4. Maybe my memory is misleading me. I'll start a new post with all the info I have.
