Bike stolen

Whenever I hear of someone having their new car stolen from their drive I wonder not if, but how much of this goes on. Much as I support the Police I do believe that crimes which would have been investigated years before are just not looked at. We are replacing effectively replacing the Police with insurance policies.

Our high street police station was closed many years ago, and only recently have we had another one opened....
Strictly 9-5 mind you, after hours there's a phone to the local switchboard, which doesn't guarantee you access to them, non emergencies are told: 'go home and get in the phone queue'...

Besides a locked garage or being in direct eyesight, what's the best preventative measure to deter theft? I assume most are loaded in a box truck so any ignition lock out won't work. And chains and locks are probably only a minor nuisance to thieves

The other thing is bikes being stolen at petrol stations whilst you are in paying
One little @@@@ gets on your bike
Another little @@@@ comes up behind on a scooter and pushes him up the road
Even if you see it happen and give chase you can only run so far at 30 mph

All this despite there being double the amount of police from say 1950 when people will tell you it was common to see police on a street corner
Where are they these days?
They are in nz, only for ticketing though , but what amazes me is they must have this clever computer program algorithm that keeps all the cars buzzing around all about 1km from each other.

Thanks - Mental note - steering lock on in petrol station....

There ain't much you can do against a few guys picking up a bike and dropping it into the back of a van in less than a minute. A cordless angle grinder will slice any chain. Even if you catch them doing it you can't stop them. But if you think we have it bad read about the thefts of agricultural vehicles in the UK......

That's the thing
A cheap cordless angle grinder with a cutting disc will cut through any lock
But it will slow them down (slightly) and will be noisy
When my car was broken into outside my house the police attended it because a neibours car also got done and he'd phoned them
The police didn't knock at my door to let me or put a note through my letterbox
The car was left best part of the night unsecured
When I phoned them in the morning they told me it was a closed incident and not to bother them with any CCTV unless I had a clear image of their faces without a mask on

Can you get those steel sheds installed/ bolted down and right at your back door ? That should keep them away or no ?

Well it would slow them down at least
My classic insurance only covers me for theft if the bike is in a steel or concrete outbuilding
If it's made of timber it has to be chained to a ground anchor
I don't know how people get on that live in a flat or don't have a garden!
