Best Norton Man Cave 2018

Green with envy of everyone's sheds. Please stop it's torture.:(

I had a headstart as the shop was already here from our custom Millwork days, complete with a 50bhp phase convertor and transformer for 240volt or 480 volt three phase power.
Just had to add the metal machine tools
and make sure their positioning did not affect operation of the woodworking equipment, although the woodworking side rarely gets used now.

My retreat. Not large but still somewhat of a sanctuary when Mrs Petersens relatives come round for a visit.

I like the Vespa in the background, too! Unfortunately I can’t show a picture of my Swiss man cave including a Norton, because this one is in a German workshop right now... I might participate in 2019 including a Vespa as well...

Yes err, the Vespa Primavera... That little Italian thing was more or less dumped upon me once, a long time ago. Rode it a few times. I can grasp the appeal of it if one is in the dense streets of Rome or Paris but outside city limits? Maybe not so much...

Offends...?!?

That’ll keep me awake at night ...

My 'retreat' keeps me awake at night as well!

Plan is to get a shed in Spring for gardening bits, push bikes and everything else that's not motorcycle related. May even have room for another bike :)

Good idea, you should throw everything out of the workshop that has no right to be there.

I didn’t realise people still made this mistake!

Absolutely, all none bike stuff must be expelled from ‘the shop’.

I bought a plastic garden storage thing cos we don’t really have space for another shed.

Worked a treat !

Nigel,
Just build another shed over the garden, then no need for gardening tools :)

Great stuff! I had to run out this morning and take pictures of mine. This is the workshop that's been my man cave for the last 30 years. My racing partner at the time was a general contractor, so he and I (plus a few hired hands here and there:)) built this shop behind the house. Since I retired back in 2004, I have enjoyed many happy hours in it. It's a lot messier than it was when first built, and I do have some hope of doing a bit of tidying up and re-organizing in the near future, but for the moment, it is what it is.

These are two outside views.

It's pretty much divided up into a bike side on the left, and a fab side on the right.

And this shot of the side entry door displays the shop philosophy.

These interior shots show the untidiness better.

This is the workbench wall.

And this view includes the steel table where I do most of the welding and fab work. I got it from a wholesale used machinery shop next to my wife's business, who told me I could have it free if I would haul it away. I don't think I could live without it now.

When we built it, I decided to put in a bathroom with lav, toilet and shower. Quite handy when friends are over helping to reduce my beer inventory.

Outside is a 40' shipping container for extra storage.

Nice shop Ken.
What is the grey hand tool which is mounted to your fab table?
It looks very much like a hot patch press that was in my father's shop.
These were inner tube patches which vulcanized to the tube under heat and pressure. ( Light the patch with a match)
They pretty much always worked.

But I don't see the hot patch foot on that gizmo so it's not a hotpatcher.

It's a Beverly throatless shear, for cutting sheet metal. Particularly handy for tight radius cuts.

that workshop and additional container space is bigger than my first house!
great setup though.

My Bijou Bike cave... I should have swept the floor!

There's definitely space for a third bike!

How are you getting on with your new Sport? We will have to meet up for a coffee/ride with Welsh once the new season kicks in.... maybe a 961 ride and an italian one though I suspect the floorboards on my california might not make it thru some of your local curves :)

The shop is 1,000 sq. ft., and my house is a manufactured home of 1,200 sq. ft., which fits my priorities pretty well:). I had hoped to build a 2,000 sq. ft. shop, but had some problems getting that approved. It worked out well in the end, because we used up all the money we had in the budget just to build the smaller one. There's also a 400 sq. ft. garage attached to the house, but my wife insisted that if I got to build my shop, she got to keep the garage for hers. We also had to buy two containers, one for me and one for her. Seemed like a fair deal to me at the time. I've been happy with it ever since.

I've only ridden it for a few miles (cock up with the V5 document). I must say however the low speed running is a lot smother and the gearbox is a delight when compared to my previous Sport.

I'd definitely up for a ride out when the weather improves both on the Nortons and the Italian steeds!

Well Gentlemen, some truly fantastic man caves. Entries seem to be drying up so will review them all and make comments. Shame there is no voting mechanism. I thought I might be a front runner, but have been put to shame but some remarkable man spaces.

Off T

(Had a nice spin out on new years eve. Was going to again as it was 11 degC here, sunny and dry but family events took over. But this mild UK weather is lulling us as I am sure it will change for the worse very soon. Roll on March perhaps. If we get a spooky dry day before, coffees, bacon butties could be on the cards on the leicestershire/lincs border)

I think Ken’s bagged it in my book ,we need to have more mirrors in our British man caves & give it a slight of hand illusion of space ,mine ain’t worth showing,it’s a tiny integral house garage amongst the home stuff
