My two Combat came with the brake cable routed under the Z-Plate so the cable bore on the edge until it wore a obquie groove the area that tough to eliminate w/o grinding about 1/4" of Al off the surrounds. Point being the factory way is not that good but the way the factory has the lever and muffer mounts set up there just ain't a really good way and it indeed hints the brake effectiveness somewhat too. Even the after market rear sets, if installed as designed, require the same poor routing. If ya put the brake plate stop peg under the swing arm edge instead of in its slot, so it let the brake cam lever lean back a ways, and the rear set mount cocked CCW one bolt hole alignment amount, then you can get a direct straight shoot at the brake lever w/o any collisions nor cable wear nor lost lever effort.

Then there's the new compact video camera with remote small displays, even wire less.

Interesting. As I said, I have never paid any attention to "alternate" routings other than what was on the bike. I'm driving up to San Miguel de Allende (by car) where the bike is in about an hour so I'll check it out later today. While working on the bike years ago and installing a new cable, I saw that groove you were talking about. I installed a new cable but, as I recall (vaguely, I admit), I didn't see any other obvious way to route it. But I wasn't giving it a whole lot of thought - just put the new cable on where the old cable had been.

Hi all

Following a great ride today (27'C over here and holding :)), I shortened my Roadster handlebars by a total of 4".
They were simply too wide.
I will have to see how this will has affected the operation of my cr*p mirror (if it has at all).
Then I will proceed to choose one from the many suggestions in this thread.

Thanks lots, again, Aris

Single mirrors are retro/cool/nostalgic, but in modern multi-lane traffic, there is just too much rear vision given up, the stakes are too high. 2 real convex mirrors to give as wide a view as possible. But, then again, I'm a safety nerd, not a Johny Rebel
