Best green lane / winter bike ?

I thought it might be a Victor.
I had a buddy that would haul his 441 Victor to the various race tracks we would attend during the race season, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Mid-America etc.
He took great joy in firing that very loud engine up very early in the morning after a hard night of beer consumption. Man that exhaust volume could destroy your hearing and the handle bar vibration would leave your hands tingling for days.
One morning the Victor kicked back and sent him sailing along with trashing his knee.
He received ZERO sympathy from his hung over comrades.
It's called karma. . . . . .

Being verticallly challenged 99% of modern off roaders are not an option. Weight is also a consideration these days. I had a Suzuki TS185 over 40 years ago but they bring silly money for a nice one so I have A Honda CT125 Hunter Cub on the way from Thailand. As Honda UK are not importing it is coming through the back door and will have to go through an SVA test so may be a couple of months away.

Have you gone through the SVA process before?
Is it straightforward?
I had assumed it’d be a Royal PITA due to emissions laws and blah, blah?

Reason for asking is that some bikes, like the DR650, which have been highly recommended by folk on here are still available new, and cheap, in Oz and USA etc but aren’t over here, and even knackered heaps seem to fetch silly money on eBay here.

Eddie, fortunately the firm importing them are doing it, however I don't think it is a big problem as the extra cost is minimal.

I think the AJP PR7 is worth a look, value for money. Engine's good, plenty of suspension travel front and back, quality parts, not too MX?

Yes they don’t look bad at all Al.

No space in my shed for one now though, there’s a bloody GP450 in the way !

With a seat height of 920mm I’d need a step ladder to get on and off it. Also too heavy for green lane riding for me at 165 kg. The Honda CT has arrived at the dealer and should be tested next week or so.

And therein lies the issue, as I see it at least.

It seems that currently, you either buy a road based off road / adventure bike that’s too heavy for off road... or an enduro bike that’s too impractical for on road !

That’s why I took a punt on the GP450, I think they were really onto something with this. Still wish they’d pull their finger out with the GP600 though, although even if they do it’ll probably be a tad on the costly side.

On the issue of spares, Haines Motorcycles in Gloucestershire do CCM spares. Might be worth checking out.

Thanks Al, I have checked them out. They’re mainly for the pre GP450 area tho, 604s and 644s and the like.
