I am in the market for a set of fork tubes and a rebuild kit. How good are the emgo tubes. I am trying not spend a fortune, but it seems so far that's not working.

Last four Commandos I've used Forking by Frank... for me, all else is of lesser quality. A few $ more, but you get what you pay for.

I purchased a set from him for my 84 LTD 1100, I was very happy with them. I'll give him a call.

I used Franks to fix Trixie's head on deer strike, about 5 years After a number of complaints of poor chrome and poor OD tolerance got corrected. Don't forget to make sure the top bushes are really round if they at first seem to tight. I have to rap around news ones on stanchions before they slip nice or indicate a trim. Roll them against each other to reveal their true ness.

I went the cheap route and bought Emgo tubes and a fork rebuild kit since the internals were pretty beat up. I'll let you know how badly they suck. At this point, I just want to ride without spending more money than I have to. I've sunk entirely too much into my project and accumulated 0 miles. Maybe I'll get lucky with the Emgo tubes, but more likely not..

I recently put a set of Emgo on.
Absolutely no problem of installation and chrome looks great.
Not had on long enough to see if wear is good but I'm happy with them.

Has anyone any experience of fitting/using the American made Cosentino front fork damping system?

Not Me, www.lansdowne-engineering.com 250 sets plus 10 racing Manx's, Ausin Kear and Jack Ebb are 1st and 2nd place in the Histroric Championships, plus 4 sets in the Lansdowne Bonhams race's all with the lansdowne Kits. Not state of the art, but simple, robust adjustable cartridges. at 1/3 of the price. One well known racer as replaced the CBR 600 conversion and installed the Lansdowne...he is very happy.

I am also going to use the Lansdown kit. I have done some trading and aquired a nice used set. They look awesome. I can't wait to get them installed.

How do the Andover fork tubes compare in price to Frank?

Dave
I use the Andover tubes and they are good quality. I purchased mine through Walridge Motors (I think he had them on a Christmas sale so there was a bit of a savings). They are about $150 a pair regular price. I don't know what Frank sells his set for?

The last pair I purchased from Frank a month and a hals ago came to $214 including UPS shipping from Evanston Illinois to Suwanee Georgia.
I have no idead Andover's price...probably depends as well if you buy direct or from a distributor..

By direct and you'll have some serious shipping costs. Old Britts has the Andover ones for about $108ea, so that's on par with Frank.

I see old Britts list the tubes as 35mm... is this a nominal size? My OEM tubes measure .020" less than that (1.3575" or 34.481mm) I've read all manner of stories about people having to ream the bush, etc. (NOT with parts from OB, just in general) What can I expect (dimensionally) when I purchase new tubes?

Got mine a few months ago from Norvil, look good, fit well, cost about £80. Not tried them on the road yet but can't see any problems with the quality.

Norvil "genuine" and pattern.....The "genuine" are made by Mat Holders company now run by his son David...under the velocette name.
Quaility is good and correct size.

I'm leaning to Forking by Frank, having used their products 33 years ago and it was fine quality then (the period correct 6" over variation :D )
so glad to see they are still offering motorcycle products!
