Does anyone sell a clutch basket to convert a manx clutch to belt drive without using the commando diaphragm stuff ? The commando clutch appears to be very heavy and I thought it might be possible to simply make an aluminium basket to accommodate the manx plates and centre.

Why not just fit a Commando belt drive system and clutch in aluminium ???

If your Commando clutch is heavy to pull then something isn't right after 40 years of owning My Norton the clutch pull is just right can use 2 fingers if I want to, its nice and light am still running the orginal plates and it has alway been a everyday ride.
I am building up a Manxman and have decided to belt drive it with open belt and have brought the Commando clutch centre for the dommie box to run the Commando clutch, so I am going the other way to what you want.

There used to be several suppliers of belt drive conversions for Manx, as well as the various twins, using the coil spring style clutch. I know that BNR had them, so that might be a good place to start.

Hi
Need more detail of what you are after is it the pull on the clutch lever that is heavy, or is it the weight of the clutch assembly that you are referring too, when you say a Manx clutch what are you referring too also, as there a few minor details over the years and also along with plates and with what is being supplied after market.
My Manx has full fibre plates as standard, but ears break off, I have currently fitted McIntosh standard steel and insert plates that give just as good performance, but as I am running the standard Norton box (1955) the lift on the plates is limited unless special things are done to increase the lift on pack to allow full disengagement, can be a pain in the but for clutch starts and clean gear changes.
The increase in lift results in more clutch lever force required.
Commando clutch when properly set up is a dream in my opinion.
Also as mentioned above Lytedrive Engineering work seems to be pretty good, from what I have seen and would be worth talking too.

Best Regards

Don't you also need the commando mainshaft - it's 6mm longer ?

RGM supplies the the set up for the converstion to fit the Dommie box, cheap and simple.

'Try Lytedrive Engineering in Melbourne. John Sceri does the complete setup.'

Thanks for that. Will do.
