Having decided to rebuild my gearbox, it kept jumping out of 1st gear at the most in opportune moments, I purchased a rebuild kit from Andover Norton.. It arrived very quickly, so I started the strip down with gusto.. After getting it off the bike and on the bench everything was looking good when I stripped it all out. No wear areas and everything looked good. Found the reason for the jumping out of gear, the PO. had put the cam plate plunger in with the cam plunger at the bottom and the spring on top.. Feeling good, weathers great, will be out riding very soon. Then I fit the bearings, and find the mainshaft and layshaft will not fit. It's only by a couple 1000ths but I don't want to have to force them in and damage the race. I checked both shafts and the spares I have and the fit in my opinion is too tight. My question is.... Has anybody else come across this problem with bearings from Andover??

Hi, where are they too tight in the cases (and so did you heat them , and how much??),or on the shafts.......?

My Andover kit fitted perfectly.............. Used the heat gun to release bearings from case, but not heat gun on installation.. Thou ambient temp was about 35C during fitting. Maybe temp was on myside.. I know it gets cold up there could that inhibit fitting... Dont take much!!

They are too tight on the shafts, ment to be a hand fit but both would need hammering on..

If the ball or roller bearing slides on with hand fit only, your shaft is worn. New shafts are meant to be press fit.
