Hello
I am wondering witch type of battery strap/fastener and rear tank fastener that was mounted originally on my Commando S
Serial number 128072.
i have none right now.

On my "S" model on the bottom of the battery tray in the corners on the front the corners are turned back making a hook. The battery strap consists of two rubber straps and two metal rings that are more triangular in shape. The metal pieces hook onto the battery tray and one strap goes over the battery and one around the back of the battery. It is a little fussy getting it all squared away since to take off the left side side panel you have to remove the high mufflers so I find I have to reach in hook the inside strap keep tension on it with one hand while positioning the battery and hooking up the right side.
I bought mine from Fair Spares America and he listed the part number as CN-69.

If there are two studs on the rear of the tank, it mounts with a large rubber band xslipped under the main frame rail. I made one out of an old rubber primary gasket, a small length of shrink tube and a dollop of Superglue. If there are two threaded holes at the rear underside of the tank, there is a flat bracket with a half loop that goes under the main frame rail and bolts up to the tank. I think that's the later version and the rubber band is the older one.

The battery strap should be this one. P/N 060568

and the tank hold down is this. P/N 060498

I use pieces of 300-19 inner tube for the tank hold down. I'll have to look into that battery strap, I'm using velcro at the moment, but the strap was nice. As I remember the rubber gave way and the metal rusted away. There were also rubber pads on the bottom and front of the battery against the tray.

Perfect
Even with part numbers.
The company i was planning to buy from told me that there should be a angeled iron bar but i had my doubts....
And about the tank studs he said to me that the tank was not a norton tank he said it was a Dunstall but i have my doubts.
Anyone have a close up of the correct tank?

The later models after yours used that angled piece of metal and one short strap on each side which seem to be made of the same useless material as the one pictured for your bike. The stretch is minimal and the rubber deteriorates quickly. I ended up using a big fat rubber strap for a Harley (< $5) with homemade ends to go in the battery box holes.

To me it was a safety issue. The battery can become a heavy projectile. Maybe something similar could be used on your earlier model.

Wow, those straps are pricy. Almost $23 at OB. I'll stick with my Velcro.

Hi,
But 128072 should be a 1968 Commando then called Fastback in 1969.

The 69-70 models we're talking about have the central oil tank and the battery sits behind the oil tank like this.

DogT,
My bad, I thought Anders was trying to improvise a new way of holding down the battery. I figured the adjustable strap might work.
