My starter woud not disengage on my 75 MKIII . If the bike was running the starter was screaming. Opened the primary and had a look and yes it is a bad sprag. Can I reassemble all without the sprag and simply kick the bike? I will order a sprag later but I want to ride now!

Thank You for the reply's gentleman. I was confident enough to button it back up and do a few miles last night.

Damn, sprags ain't cheap. May roll a while like this.

You'll save your self quite a bit of money and weight if you just bin the whole electric start system.

Do a google search on Commando sprag gear to see its related to the Spragthrope kennal of dead end inovations that even seasoned Nortoneers might only get 2-300 miles stop/starts before back to kicking. Sorry for ya'll that got stuck with a Commando after it peaked in early '70's 750's. Alton is better advertised but DynoDave's starter system may be a better deal, thought don't know about how well it treats sprag gear lasting. Thumb commensors are known to lower IQ in all other brands but Commando E-start owners so ride with pride and a spare sprag at home.
