That PB Blaster stuff is supposed to have an edge on it. I'll have to get some and try it sometime.

I keep a can around. It seems to work well on rusted parts. I am also especially fond of Kroil as a penetrant. The Kroil seems less aggressive on plasitc and paint.

Cookie, thanks so much for the tip on PB Blaster, I picked a can up at Lowe's yesterday and sprayed a goodly amount on the reluctoer, let it soak overnight and tapped the brass slide part of the tool pretty aggessively, side to side about 25 times and it popped off.

I so appreciate you guys support and will give an update when the TriSpark is fitted.

RonL, one of the techs at Barber I was speaking with recommended the Kroil product as he had worked in the aerospace industry and said it was a really good application for corroded aluminum bits but is not readily available, I did a Google and came up with a vendor for mail order.

Kano Labs is the maker I think. If you Google "Aerokroil" it will take you to a page where you will get a special deal. 2 king size cans with free shipping for $12. Since my small can was running low I went for it. This small can has lasted me since I was a teenager. (Now 58!). I plan to give away one can to a Norton buddy. Wonderful stuff.

That is a bit of a problem as sometimes they won't let you buy stuff as a civilian. I have some Canadian made anti corrosive stuff that enhances contact, I never reccomend it as it is not generally avaialable and is only really used in sattleites and remote power stations.
I have seen Kroil somewhere but maybe at our bus and train shops.

I hope there was no damage to the taper on the camshaft?

I remember when I popped the standard auto advance unit off my 850 I used a slide hammer, It took some shifting so I will remember the penetrating oil trick next time.
I also remember a really curious smell as it broke free, almost like a corrosive acid type smell. Dunno what this was or why, but it struck me as curious....any ideas?

Thanks for the replies, tapping vigorously sideways and out combined with some spray 'unstickner' did the trick and out it came. The new ignition is in and the bike fired on the first try. :D
