jn, that's a neat old school loud sounding Commando but not as obnoxious like the Harlelys. I do wonder if forks bottomed out if fender would strike a pipe which dents fender more than bothers pipe. With the richer jetting as said was done I know ya can feel the response improvement w/o lugging restrictive mufflers along.

Alan are you saying that Kawasaki Z900 header pipes can fit in head with clearance to bring together on a Commando frame?

This is a 2 into 1 exhaust I used back in the '70s, but I can't recall who made it. I'll see if I can find it in my notes, and see if it's still available. I raced this bike with it, then converted it back to a street bike, and never had any ground clearance problems on track or road. Sorry for the picture quality. It's scanned from an old 35 mm slide.

If you don't mind ordering from overseas, you will have more options. Norman White used to make this exhaust system for sale, as used in factory PR. He might still make them on order.

These days, if I was going to make a 2 into one exhaust system, I'd look around the airports for the manufacturer of the aircraft exhausts. I saw a guy at Moorabbin Airport in Victoria who makes aircraft exhausts out of a very light nickel alloy - Hastelloy I think. He is experienced in bending and shaping it.

The last straw that made Peel a sportsbike hunter spanker was the exhaust and on boosted engines that can over come intake faults its the exhaust side that tunes up any power gains. Airport exhuast is a neat idea I'll start tracking down around here. Too bad Peel can't live with anything below frame rails or center line runs makes best sense expect of center stand issues. Btw there is some benefit aiming exhaust to fill in some the low pressure turbulance wake, generally at an upsweep angle like most the Commando come with. Might have to fit a taller ratio to notice after 120 or so.

Sorta Like THIS ; but the lower one can be tweaked more up and inside away , for 45 Deg. + bank clearance .

Like THIS ,

But AS THE HEADERS ARE LONGER , kick the lower one up in under as its further aft , top just needs to clear swing arm , which gets the other up further away in too .

These are WASSELL , from steadfast . Come in three sizes to 1 3/4 bore front fit . Baffles held in by 4 rivets fall out . Use PK screws .

The Baffles ( perferated Steel ) go incandesent and augment exhaust vacume , with 270 mainjets . 45 mpg Avg - touring .
