At the Risk of Opening a Can of Worms

A long time ago, a racer was criticized for all battlescars and lack of paint. He answered:
Paint ain't fast.
But on a roadbike or a racebike where sponsors pays, it's nice with a good paintjob.
Back to the original question.
I think that most changes that resemble what was made then is acceptable.
Half a century ago, we regarded a British motorcycle as a raw material that after a winters work could be turned into something decent to ride.
But I will probably never fit LED turn signals on my Vincent.

And I will never fit my turn signals on Norton Roadster ....

Can't cope with that stand hanging down in your photo. Aah .

Steve - build what YOU like . My Dad and grandfather were both master wooden boat builders . At various times in their careers they worked for many different boat yards before starting their own . At one point they were both employed by one of the pre eminent custom yacht builders in the northeast. When the recently completed large sailing yacht emerged from the paint shop in a very non-traditional color much grumbling could be heard amongst the traditional craftsmen who, rightly so, considered this boat to be one of their children.
The very wealthy gentleman who had commissioned it’s construction and was paying all the bills said to the gathering:
“ One of the nicest things about owning your own boat is that you can paint it any color you want “

You can pick the wrong color of green. You can pick the wrong color of blue, red, yellow, orange, purple and be disappointed in the paint. But you wont pick the wrong color of black!

Green? Who on God's green earth would chop one?.... Yet My eyes have witnessed the sacrilege committed in that pic... My issue with it is that there shall never again be any more Vincent motorcycles built. Could be like Norton one day with updated versions, but never the ones of old glory and fame.
Folks remember Norton Motorcycles of yesterday's fame. They may appreciate your artistic flair and expression today, but years from now they'll recall the damnable fool who butchered a wonderful piece of history wondering where those valuable parts went(English parts BTW)so things may be put right. Not a purist, but just keeping it close for the next in line. Apology for the rant.

Thanks Rick, I am absolutely leaning Gus Kuhn racer...

Just for clarity, the green reference was a joke boys!

But being serious for a moment, although I think the chop is hideous, he likes it! And...

I would suggest there is zero chance this guy actually chopped a Vincent. Far more likely that he had some spare cases and other engine parts and built himself an engine, and decided to do something ‘different’.

Provided he didn’t hacksaw off parts of the engine (as many Norvin builders did, yet Norvins don’t attract universal condemnation) then he’s not done anything that can’t be undone.

I think he set out to have a laugh and poke the hornets nest. And I think he succeeded !

Eddie. You're quite close. His father had a Lightning and an early Egli then. Now only a Norvin and B-Rapide. He had a spare twin engine. So the son got it to play with.

That's what I thought, and have stated a time or two, but then I was "educated" that in fact there are "many" shades of Black.

I just replied "okie-dokie"...

I painted this one for a friend. The color is called "Very Black". Honest. R-M Diamont.

The perfect color of black. My favorite was DuPont #99 Pitch Black. That looks real close too.

Think mine s Toyota Black , looks good to me , although sidecover decals misplaced ....

I was recently at a sporting event that had a booth selling shirts. I fancied the long sleeve over the traditional tee and asked the young lady if she had my size in black. Her reply was she only had short sleeves in black. Then another guy pulls a long sleeve out of the pile and buys it and its "black"! I say to her, "I thought you didn't have those in black?" She replied quite earnestly, "Those are charcoal."

A fine color of black it is too.

Women have this uncanny ability to see many colors whereas men see only one. I am thankful I don't have to deal with all of the confusion brought on by their sex, although they appear willing enough to share it if you allow them ample opportunity.
