The leg makers wanted to know what patten I would like on my new leg and I didn't know what to put on it, but Jerry sent Debra and me Access Norton T shirts and sweat shirts for both of us and I thought that be nice logo on the leg, thanks Jerry and his lovely wife, the new leg fits great, I wore it for 6 hours the other day when we had to get out and about to do things, I didn't tell rehab that but and I haven't told them I been walking around the house and yard without any aids just me and my 2 legs, next week rehab are giving me 2 walking sticks so no more crutches.
Walking without any aids I can now understand why they put a lot of training on my hips to build up my hip muscles, the hips replaces the missing calf muscle, putting weight on the right hip before I step with my peg leg, it's all starting to come together and soon rehab be setting me free.
It's a strange getting used to walking differently when you have 2 real legs with the peg leg, the body has to be straight, put weight on the right hip and the right shoulder has to stay inline with the right hip before you take a step with the right peg leg, training the brain to do this is the hardest part but I am slowly putting it all together and the rehab physio's can't believe how well advance I am with learning to walk again, but of course they do know I been doing more than what they tell me I am allowed to do outside of rehab, Britteny my trainer just tells me to be careful and to take it slowly, she knows I am keen to get back on with my life.
6 months today since the accident and I am doing so well, better than a lot of other amputees I have met who have been longer than me learning to walk with their new leg, the hardest part is for the stump and skin to get used to the leg, the skin on my lower leg/stump needs to toughen up more and I have to keep a close eye that the skin don't break as that will set me back while it heals, but so far so good, the skin is very tender where I had road rash.

Yes - they get nearly everything wrong in Victoria, don't they?
In Queensland we say that the best thing about New South Wales is that it keeps Victoria 1000km from Queensland!
I think I prefer Victoria over NSW, they think they are a better Rugby Leage tean till we kick their arses.

Have they recommended the best oil for the ankle joint?
:)

My (brief) experience of driving and riding around Melbun and the coast road to The Apostles was that it was quite civilised (everywhere is civilised compared to London traffic). Only thing I found strange was the idea of waiting in the left lane to turn right at traffic lights.

That's only in Melbourn, Victoria rule, don't happen up in QLD or any other state I don't think, each state has their own road rules.

My leg be serviced by the leg makers for the rest of my time, got to go back to them on Thursday for a fitting check up to make sure it's fitting right and adjusted right, I wore it today for 7 hours and felt good walking around the shed and going to the beer fridge regularly lol and I didn't use any aids to walk around, I even done some work on the train layout.

Been wearing my leg yesterday for 6 hours and walking around the yard, shed and in the house using one walking stick, I been keeping an eye on my stump to make sure it's not rubbing in the leg and keeping an eye on the skin, but with the silicone insert the stump can get a bit sweaty but it's not so bad being winter here but what's it going to be like in our hot summers, only time will tell, but I don't want to get broken skin on my stump as the skin is very tender till it toughens up more, I still have marks on the skin from the road rash from the accident will take a year or more for it to fade away.

I moisturise my stump every morning which helps the skin to heal and don't dry it out. but it's great to be up and walking again, rehab only wants me to wear the leg for 40 minutes at a time 2 times a day, but the new leg is fitting pretty good and is comfortable to wear, going back to the leg makers tomorrow for a fitting check up, I still got to be careful in what I do with the new leg as I am still on my learners plates lol, but its fu cking great to be on 2 legs again, better than being legless 24/7 lol.

It's so much different to walking with 2 normal legs as no longer having a calf muscle in my right leg the hip has to work harder to walk, but I have also walked around without any aids but I haven't told rehab that as that be the next stage in my rehab training to walk unaided, don't want to spoil their fun, but the people working with me and all the hospital staff and taxi drivers have been so good and same with the leg makers, I get picked up, drop off at the hospital transit centre, all the staff book me in as they all know me now and it's just a short walk through the transit centre to rehab and reception all know me now, to be honest I enjoy my few days a week run up to rehab gets me out of the house, sometimes the wife come up with me but most of the time I go on my own, it's a good break from the wife although I love her we both need a break from each other.

Starting to muck around with the train layout and going to change some of the track work and add another double track around the layout but have to get another box of flexy track as I be short but can bend the 3rd radis curves, I don't want to start the wiring till I am happy with the set of the track, great getting back into my new hobby again.

Another rehab session yesterday and things are starting to come together with my walking, my amputee physios are so happy how things are coming along with my progress in such a short time and they know I been doing more things with my new leg than what they expected and knowing having my leg I be doing more, it's just natural to want to be walking as soon as I can, but the new leg is fitting so well and had not had to readjust it when I put it on, but I still got to be careful I don't over do it as the skin is still recovering, I do know my limits.

A big afternoon today, drinks with old mates I grew up with sharing our time together with me and my old Norton, can't believe it's been with me for 50 years, even had my first sex with it, a very lose and sexual girl I dated for a few weeks, everyone dated her back then, we were all young, she wore me out in the 3 weeks we hung around, a classic bike and a very over sexual girl, I learned a lot in those 3 weeks with her and so did a few other of my mates, to be 17 again knowing what we know now lol.

I was talking to my old mate Don who got me into Norton MCs, he can't believe it been 50 years and how I out smarted him when buying the Featherbed frame, he had 2 one with some damage to the bottom rails and one good frame that was around the corner from my place waiting to get painted for his own build, after paying for the one he was trying to palm off to me, I went around the corner and grabbed the good frame, he shouldn't have told me it was at Micks place lol, a few days later he asked me when I was picking up the frame and I told him I already had it, I got the good frame not the one he was trying to palm off to me, we still have a good laugh about that one, Don is a bit of a rough with some of his dealings and he is a bit of a bodger when building bikes.

I had another mate back in the 70s his Norton was a major wet sumper and he blew it up outside Dons place and left it there for 2 weeks when he went to pick it up Don had taken Steves good parts of his bike and replace them with his worn out parts, Steve pick that up straight away and told Don to get his parts off his Norton and put them back on his bike, just had to be one step ahead of Dons dealings lol.

So many good memoirs, been a good life for me and my old mates and our days of riding together, most still riding, but no one has owned their bike for so long.

You cannot keep a good man down. Kudos.
Well it depends how much, but the quicker we get back up is the main thing, not going to let this minor thing keep me down, yes I lost my lower right leg, get over it and get back on top as soon as I can.
But it's not about me, well that's how I look at things, the quicker I get back on two feet the better for me, no one else, but it hasn't been easy, it's how I make it that will get me through this and my mates.

It's the way I am no matter how bad things are or get there is always a bright side of things and there are people worst off than myself, every time I go to the amputee rehab up at the hospital I see people suffering, in more pain from injuries to cancer patients, so in away I am not suffering any pain, I recovered from my major injury pretty quick, it's been hard work with my rehab as well having a positive attitude and strong mind has helped me to recover a lot quicker than most other amputees.

It's only been just over 5 weeks learning to walk, 3 weeks on my training leg and just over 2 weeks on my full time leg, but before I got my training leg I was learning and doing a lot of hip exercises with a steel cage leg that was heavy and no knee movement at all, it was a real peg leg and I used that for a lot more time than the good legs made for my stump and the month stay at the rehab hospital near our home learning to walk on crutches as well getting around in a wheel chair and doing thing on my own without any help, I sort of blew them away with what I was doing by myself without any assistants at all, as well the 26 days recovering in hospital after the accident and surgery removing my leg, I didn't want to go years of pain trying to save my right foot, it was my decision to remove my long term pain for a quicker recovery, I accepted my injuries from day one from the accident and I could see the relief in the surgeons eyes when I told him to take it off, I made the right choice.

It sounds like you are soon ready to kick some ass.
Your leg might look like a dogbone to Millie so careful where you rest it.
My friend set his dentures down on the coffee table after supper watching the ball game.and his heeler snatched them, ran out and buried them in the back forty never to be found. He is out 2 grand and a set of teeth.

My poor old Millie is 15 years old now she gone deaf has slowed down a lot from her younger days, she sleeps more as well, she hasn't nipped my heels for a long time now, her ears have drooped and no longer standing up, but she still has a good appetite loves her food and when cooking she sits where she can smell everything and gets in the way of the cook, she now no longer bale up anyone coming through the front gate, her guard duties are well over and she now sleeps in the house, my dogs have never been house dogs and they usually sleep under the house.

A mate who I got Millie off when she was 11 months old is lining me up with another blue heeler as his son breeds them and my mate tells me they are the best heelers around, his bitch is pupping now.

Awesome. The pup will pick up traits off the old girl. Just keep an eye on your leg lol

I have had cattle dogs all my life the good thing they learn real quick without to much training, they are a very smart dog and learn how we want them to behave very quickly.
