Ash is in hospital

Something I have been aware of for a while now is that modern cars ‘A pillars’ (ie between the front door and windscreens) are getting bigger, and can represent quite a blind spot at times. From your description Ash, it sounds to me like this could have been a factor here.

I fully agree with you Nigel blindspots are so bad, driving trucks there are many and reling on mirrors is not good enough so easy to cross paths, but she had clear view from our accident but as i say she was watching the car on the other side of the intersection thinking it might turn in front of her and not notice we were çoming although the LED day light was on and its fu cking bright, but things happen so quickly and a laps of conentration is all that is needed, i am sure we have all gone through the same or similar things in our life time on the road, she made a mistake as she has to also live with it.
While with Debra with her injuries i would have love to give her a big cuddle today but me in a wheel chair and she was in a chair with her lleg all banged up was just impossible to do and was upsetting for both of us and she was crying when it was time to go, i started to cry while the wardsman pushed me off but he was a good person and we had a good chat while heading back to my floor and bed, so many caring people who see it all and understand our tears and sadness.
We are both in good care here, couldn't ask for better.

The other party's insurance coverage is a bit of a bright spot in all this. Motor vehicle insurance is required here in Texas as well, but there are people who get their insurance, print a card to carry and then simply stop making the payments. Find another insurer next year and repeat. They sell 'Uninsured Motorist' coverage (or some similar wording) as a separate line item to cover your losses if the guilty party doesn't have insurance. It is not an inexpensive option. In the case of my motorcycle it almost doubled the cost of the premium this year.

Here in Aus its composery to have 3rd party insurence with your rego to cover cost to injured people in a accident, full rego is cheap but the added high composery insurence isan't, my Triumph rego all up with 3rd party is $550 a year the bike rego is about $110 and the 3rd party is the rest, and even higher for car rego, lots of money to be on the road but lots of money for payout injuries as well, some payouts over a million$$$ in damages why the high cost of 3rd party insurence is do high.

Day 23 just on 6am the nurse just took the dressing off my leg for the docs inspection, she said its looking pretty good, fruitcake just over from me is off his head chatting to himself, one crazy person, not sure what has cooked his brain but its done the job.
Had a bit of a moment this morning thinking about when they move me and only be able to see the the wife when i have to come back up here for some extra rehab and leg fitting when healed, be the longest we been apart for 35+ years we been together.
God fruitcake has lost the plot starting to rave on a lot louder, too early in the morning fot his sh it.

Another boring day in hospital, not much been happening, surpose to do rehab physo training yesterday and today but the team let me down with a no show, surpose to be picked up at 9am 5 days a week for my workout so not sure what is going on there and the nurses haven't heard from them.
I got to get away from shopping online, was on Amazon and brought a new train for my layout lol.
Had a few long phone calls from old mates today so that cheers me up, 2 mates i started school with in grade one, so long term mates and Steve one of my closest mate, but so many, they sayin my house yard hasn't looked so good as so far 3 different people have gone to mow my yard, when i mow its normally a jungle before i do it lol.
My poor old cattle dog Millie, she has been sleeping under my Land Rover during the day where she can see the front gate, she is so lost thinking where the fu ck i am and all these people coming around doing things and JD. a old friend of my daughter has been going there and feeding her every night, W T F is happening but i be home soon even if its just a visit as i can't wait to just lay beside her and give her a good loving cuddle and rub, she has been a loyal old dog for me.
Still no news when i be moving cliser to home but hope it is before the WE as its so boring here in thd main hospital.
Well that is about it for now.

That makes us look like the cool kids…!

The last few days i been a bit down, this afternoon my wife best friend Sharlen was beside me and i was telling her i was missing my dog Millie and the tears started to flow when the nurse came in and said i be moving to Brighton rehab hospital, i was so happy with the news, closer to my home just 1 km away, but up hill lol, i lived in Brighton all my life so was the best news yet.
The abulance is booked at 10am tomorrow, i wonder if they let me drive lol.
The bad news Debra is having surgery tomorrow around the same time on her right knee, was surpose to be done in Feb but was brought forward to tomorrow because she is healing good with her leg, she getting a skin grath on her right knee, so some good and bad news but i need to get out of here and closer to home and closer to my mates.

Hopefully, if they have any sense of decency, the new hospital will permit you to have a visit from Millie to provide a little comfort.

The good thing about the move to Brighton rehab is more freedom with day passes and more movement around so be able to get out visit home and Millie as well my Mens Shed i been with for about 15 months is in the same complex, so a short stroll to visit my mates there as well, also its right on the beach front to Moreton bay and a great fishing spot, but hopefully i will be there only for a few weeks till i can master getting around on cruchers, although i been on cruchers before but its a but different with a missing bottom 1/2 leg/foot.
At home i have a wheel chair inside the house, but my house has steps 8 at the front and only 3 at the back, so once i get my balance right on the cruchers i have more freedom as well my new training leg be fitted not long after that.
The rehab hospital is all set up for training and i also be visiting for more training up here in this hospital for day training at the ampertee physo where my new training leg/foot be made/fitted before my proper leg/foot be ordered after i learn to walk again.
We are so grest to have a good hospital system here in my state of Queensland as well Australia as everthing cost nothing even my new leg/foot and all the training all covered by Medicare.
Its going to be hard leaving here tomorrow so many to thank for great care, but i won't miss the place thats for sure, hopefully i be home soon and Debra will be transferr to Brighton rehab soon as well.

Ash - what has happened to you and your wife is the stuff of nightmares. Being killed by some lame-brain in a car, is definitely not the way to go. If I had been killed while riding motorcycles on public roads when I was young, I would have deserved it. Most of us are too old to die that way. I had a road motorcycle when I first moved to Benalla, and I used to work in a high risk industry. I have never felt as apprehensive as when riding a motorcycle on public roads, these days.

My mind has shut out a lot of things which happened when I was young. But there was somebody whom, I felt would still be alive, if I had really given him a mouthful of abuse. I cannot remember who it was. By the time I was married at age 23, I could remember the names of that number of guys who were killed on public roads. The main thing is that you are still alive.

Al i know you mean well in your own way, but talking about death and danger of riding on public roads is no more dangerous as walking the streets, driving on the roads or racing has its life dangers, everything we do could be dangerous, just working around your house, but i don't think of death, to busy thinking of life to worry about death.
Yes i have had a bad accident and a serous injury but i servived to live another day, one mistake by a person has changed my life as well Debra's life forever but i an not giving up, i learn to start my old Norton again and ride it back on the road, as my accident hasn't put me off of my love of British motorcycles yes it has slowrd me down as it will be sometime before i work things out and learn to walk again.
Giving up the things i love is not even in my mind or being scared to face any fears is just not on, no matter what everone says, i won't be changing for no one, fear is the enemy, and i be back on the road hopefully without changing my Norton and adding more weight to it is just not on, i built it to be light as a feather, a true Featherbed, light and nimble with a bit more power.
Enjoy life, take the risk, don't let the enemy of fear win, do what you love best and riding bikes is what i do best.
