New 961 SF arrived from Gold Coast this morning. 5 miles on the speedo. Purchased short, decatted pipes from Krazy horse (Phil and crew are great to work with) Gold Coast installed the pipes and remapped the ECU with #77 program.

The short pipes sound great, much better than the DT pipes from South Bay.

Problem now is keeping the RPM's down for the next 500 miles.

It's a black and gold beauty.
I can see in the third photo there is no cat bulge in the lower crossover pipe.
Are both the silencers and de catted crossover pipe from Norton, or special Krazy Horse items?

I believe the silencers and decat pipe are Norton units, manufactured by Motad (I could be wrong on this, anybody in the know more than I, please chime in) I have to thank Dozer for leading me to the right people at Krazy Horse. I cannot say enough good things about their customer service.

The pipes are slightly louder (I have South Bay DT's on my Red SF Biposto) I will have to start them up side by side and do a quick video with sound. Not only are the new short pipes louder, they have a deeper, "throatier" (is that a word?) growl to them.

I have the same pipes. They have such a DEEP THROATY SOUND and when cruising at around 3,200 rpm it sounds like someone is behind you.. Doesn't even sound like the noise is from your own bike... lol

It's so crazy how fantastic these Norton's can be when dialed in. I love mine! I ride it every day to work and back which is half and hour to work and I take the long way home. Then I still find myself looking for excuses to either ride it, stare at it or polish it. :mrgreen: My wife and kids think I'm crazy.

I installed the South Bay DT's myself. I did not install these new short pipes.

But they have the same mounting design as standard Norton pipes. There is a mount for the X pipe, and the silencers have a sliding bracket to position the silencers. This is not how South Bay is doing it. South Bay X pipes have no hanger, and the silencers have a ridged, non adjustable mount to the frame

Sorry for the picture quality Hope you get the idea from the explanation In my opinion, the short pipes with the Norton mount design is a much better product. Having the X pipe mounted from a hanger will support this system better

G81 Can Cycle,

Looks great - still wish I could have gone that route but just wasn't to be with no warranty service down here. Still have to ride about 70 miles up to Daytona to get the Triumphs serviced but at least that's easier than trying to get the 961 up to New York (LoL). I have had a hard time keeping the new Street Triple Rx rpms down (far too easy to get tp 6K just going through the gears normally, especially when using the quick shifter). Can't image what the triple will be like once it's really broken in.

I also have had the shorty pipes fitted with the re-map at around 1500klms. At this stage I was still bringing the revs up in short squirts of +500 when coming up through the gears till there was 4000klms on the speedo.

Once I started to ride the bike in the 5000 to 7000 rev range the bike came alive. At 70kgs the bike was a bit stiff so I had the suspension tuned to my weight i.e. rear springs changed with larger valves put into the forks. This has also changed the bike making it a lot more enjoyable to ride. I put 7500klms on in three months and every Klm a pleasure, this bike is way more enjoyable to ride than any of my other bikes and will end up with high miles. I look forward to hearing from those who are further tuning or having engine work done to gain more from their stead.

Love the sound of the pipes but was quite surprised when a friend took the bike for a spin, the pipes are a lot louder when you are actually on the bike.

I gave this number and name to TonyA and he was able to get his short Motads with little or no problem. This is also the name and number I used to get my pipes. I found the customer service to be great. I get many of my spare parts from Krazy Horse. If they do not have them in stock, they pick them up at Donnington Hall (or at least that is what they have done in the past.)

011 44 1284 749645 (011 is international access from states, and 44 is UK country code) automated answering service, press 5 (if I am remembering correctly) for Norton sales, then ask for Paul (that should be an easy name for you to remember LOL) Dozer, one of the forum contributors, shared this info, and I am glad he did.

Additionally: Currently, the best US dealer for support, at least east of the Rockies, seems to be MCC in Chicago. This assumption comes from input from many of the east coast owners, but particularly from TonyA.

Get out and ride that thing. Get her broke in before the weather changes drastically in the northeast. She will be so much more fun to ride after 600 miles.

It was ordered through GC. So when it arrived it never shoed up as inventory, because it was already "spoken" for.

This post is dated, the bike was actually delivered back in June, and that may be before you started to shop

The shorties are very loud. But if you do not have to care about problems with the cops because of that, they are great!

Great to hear and no worries about cops here. They would have a lot of Harleys to get first.
