Best thief deterrent?

Anti Theft Devices

Most people don't even know how to use one of these.

No one knows how to use a kicker. No one cares. Thieves have their eyeballs on supersquids. Hardley Davidson owners get all paranoid about their bikes ,why ? , they garage the with big locks , etc.

This is what I do to get piece of mind and a good night sleep if you have to leave your Norton outside your living room. Place a cycle cover over the bike and under the cover lay a motion detector on the seat and place the detector receiver on your night stand next to your bed which is next to a loaded shotgun. If the receiver goes off , the shotgun goes out the window. Only thing I can say is the thieves better be very very fast!! :o :o You can purchase one of these detectors from Sportsman Guide for under 20 bucks and they really do work!!! :D :D :D FROM THE HILLS OF WEST VIRGINIA !!!! HERSHEY

The three of us protect my cycle family, me, Smith & Wesson! OH and there's another that I cant mention here, so that makes four!!!!

Exactly my technique - decades ago now - to prevent the loss of my '65 Sportster in Philly. One day, no more bike in the garage, took the chain too. I wouldn't want to own one again but it still pisses me off. I still know the serial number by heart.

Hard to steal if you can't move it. For drilled rotors anyway.

Yeah, if you're trying to prevent a couple of kids from pushing it off but add three or four big determined guys and a truck or utility trailer and say goodbye. Really cool looking rotor locks though!

The anti-theft ideas of Foxy and Shrugger are okay but a S-W is hard to hit a moving target in the dark and like Shrugger says a couple of guys could carry a Norton. My way, as soon as they lift the cover and see the little red light on the detector blinking they already have heard a loud bang and a burning sensation when a load of # 8 hits them in the " ass " No need to shoot to kill, let them run, just check the local hospital and see who has a pan full of lead shot next to them. !!! :D :D Hershey

I shoot some cycle bandits like coons and packs rats, ugh takes me a few days for the blood and guts images to settle down. Maybe a small canister that sprayed out skunk essence on one side and rotted fish heads on the other. How and when to trigger it and aim off bike would take some inventiveness and fail safe device.

Strong enough tends to induce involuntary upchucking and lingers a while.

With 15000 acres and a backhoe i think I could make offenders disappear! Mmmm.... but knowing my luck I'd be the one sent to the pen and end up being some big mungrels love toy! YIKES that'd ruin motorcycle riding in more ways than one!

I'm certain there is stuff on the market that makes a bloody good deterent when a canister is broken by the unexpecting :!: :?:

Duh ain't ya seen the movies and TV shows, then can always sniff up or dig up buried evidence. One reason Bugger County got its name was from what some big hogs got fed on. Don't ya know its on my mind walking away form a break down in middle of nowhere PU truck region. Often as I can I hide it or ask to local to allow it there till retrieved. Smoke-stink bomb would delay spur of the moment attempts. Some criminals are superstitious so maybe a evil eye symbol would change their mind to instead just burn it at the stake.... Photo of a pet may put a few more off.

You guys got me thinking... I've thought about building an alarm with a mercury switch as an actuator, but with today's RF proximity technology I'll bet there's one already made that's small enough to fit a Norton. Think I'll go Google up something.

Meanwhile, my 1911 is a deterrent but I have to be close by..

Many companies are offering now different type of security alarm and other security devices for your vehicle security. But main problem is that when you have any problem with the alarm system than ignition and other electrical component don't work properly. So there must find a better solution for that.

Four men with two steel bars can pick up a bike and put it in a van in a matter of seconds. About a year ago, a Vincent was stolen like this at a Vincent rally with the bike parked next to the owner's tent. I heard of a semi loaded with bikes stolen like this at Daytona.
My very first motorcycle was stolen by pros (an outlaw motorcycle club) despite being locked and chained to a lampost at an intersection. Many years later, I found out that I was probably lucky not to have been present at the time. Eventually justice was meeted out to the thieves; their karma. I never saw the bike again, of course.
The only thing you can do is slow a thief down with chains, alarms, etc. Or, get a room on the first floor and roll the bike in with you.

For casual thieves, I've always thought my English bikes have 2 of the least expensive anti-theft devices, kickstart and right shift. For professional thieves, nothing will stop them.
