Not great for a new wiring harness!
May I ask where it was sourced from?

I don’t know because that part of the bike was done when I bought it and everything was wrapped up. My guess is that whoever joined the harness to the alternator put that in there but it’s only a guess.

I’m more annoyed with myself than the original sinner because I should have checked then checked again but just assumed it would be right.

It's not a unique issue. As far as I know, Lucas does not make 2-way connector.
They make a 3-way and 5-way. Along with double, triple and quad 'Common' connectors.
I've seen the double common used incorrectly in two places, the alternator and the rear turn signals.
One just needs to be careful as to which application.

I’ve ordered a box of various waterproof block connectors to do away with some of the bullet terminals, spade terminals and other assorted joined bits and pieces of wiring but I’m a bit wary of putting one where I’ve connected the alternator to the wiring harness because I suspect most won’t take the higher output that produces. I’m happy enough with a hard connection because I greased everything and it’s well insulated from moisture so I’d be doing it for the sake of it and it’d still need cutting off if I need to remove the primary chain case.

I’ve still got a few odds and ends to sort out on the bike but basically it needs a road test even if it’s only a couple of hundred yards just to check the clutch and gearbox function as they should. It’s never been near a road since being rebuilt from the ground up so getting it running and charging is really just the end of chapter one
