Andover Norton

I haven't ordered parts from Andover Norton, but the price difference gets my attention. I'm wondering if they ship fast? What's their normal shipping time, and once shipped how long does it take to arrive?

In the UK they ship next working day and it takes 2 or 3 days to delivery. Good supplier and they supply a lot of the other suppliers being custodians of the original drawings.

Yep, all the reputable U.S. BritBike parts stockists distribute AN parts.

I receive orders directly from A/N to California within one week. It would appear from the prices being charged that A/N does not
give much of (or any) a discount to their suppliers. Shipping fees are reasonable; In some cases about the same as buying
from a stateside vendor. And there is no state sales tax or VAT applied to direct export sales to the states. They are attentive and helpful
with questions (via email). It would appear that a local vendor is in a better position to help with more complicated issues and, of course,
there is the issue of supporting your local vendor. There are at least 10 very well known and respected stateside vendors who supply
A/N parts. Not all A/N products are necessarily the best. A/N subcontracts out for many parts. There are other manufacturers of replica Norton parts who make very fine products. Usually from GB. Then there are producers of excellent aftermarket and enhancement parts/systems from OZ, NZ, Phillipines, Colorado, New York, etc. I tend to buy mostly A/N parts as they are correct and fit. They totally stand behind their products.

Im not sure what you mean here. No one makes the stock replacement parts themselves. Only one company has the original specs.

Remember that back in the day only BSA really made a lot of their own parts. Everyone else subcontracted most stuff out.
Ive used AN for parts via their web shop and have had no real problems. My bet is they will still be around after many
others have folded their tents.

Their website is a thing of beauty.
You could build a complete bike from parts just using the parts diagrams on their website. That would be the Commando, their Dommie diagrams aren't as good. Even so, the Dommie diagrams on the Andover site are better than in my ebay purchased Dominator parts book.
When I'm trying to figure how many washers are used or what is the correct order for shims and washers etc, I go to the Andover site rather than the parts book, even for the Commando.
It's just so easy to use and to zero in on.

I find that buying Andover norton parts from RGM usually results in a next day delivery, Andover Norton are a bit slower.

RGM's parts may not necessarily be genuine AN parts, though, as I believe they independently source many of the parts they sell, not that there's anything wrong with that.

I think the Andover Norton parts drawings / parts contained lists could be even more better if they included "Quantity Required" information.

I've had good parts from RGM too. And they are reasonable and fast with shipping to the US. Same with Hemmings, I think I didn't use Andover because it was easier at the time from the others, at least for me.

Yes, also more fastener thread info. would be useful, some have it, but many do not.

Many of the old parts book errors are still there, unfortunately.

That's why I use Old Britts as my primary source. The entire parts list for commandos, along with # of pieces required, price, and availability.

...plus, they know what they're talking about.

Im not sure what you mean here. No one makes the stock replacement parts themselves. Only one company has the original specs.

I should have been more precise. I am speaking mostly of consumable parts such as cables, electrical components, etc. Things that NV did not
originally design beyond size/length/wattage. Stuff produced by Lucas, Girling, etc. The peashooter muffler (silencer) they sell is a direct pass through and much louder (which I like) than the original. Other GB manufacturers make peashooters with varying degrees of sound "muffling" some of which are quite nice and visually they appear the same. The black cap muffler they sell is close but not exactly like the original. Amal carburetors are now being copied and many people prefer other brands/styles of carbs. I would agree that for 95% of parts A/N is the way to go.

I have ordered parts from RGM on a Saturday on their website and gotten the parts on Wednesday here in Texas. It was shipped by UPS. I have had other items shipped from Walridge Motors and they have say in US customs in Chicago for over a week. It's a crap shoot but I would rather avoid USPS if I can when dealing overseas or out of the country.

I live on the west coast of Canada (Vancouver Island) and have ordered many times from Andover Norton. As I recall, it usually takes them two business days to get the parts together and two weeks to receive the parts from them which, naturally, goes through Customs and, no doubt, is delayed on the mainland prior to being shipped over to the island. All in all, not the least disappointed with their service.

Bryan Old Britts is down here south of Seattle and I find they ship within a day or two so getting parts up to Vancouver Island should be fast, as long as customs doesn't sit on them too long. They have a terrific site and excellent customer service.

Hi I was very pleased with the service and everything from Old Britts, too. They sent me stencils to a paint shop in London ON and bent over backwards to help because i had given an old address. Really very good.

One more way AN could improve their customer service would be to see that the Royal Mail tracking number is emailed to us when a package is shipped. I received my latest shipment from them today, and it had a Royal Mail tracking number sticker right next to the address label. I entered the number into the Royal Mail website and it showed the progress to JFK airport where USPS took over. I then entered that same number into the USPS website and it showed the progress all the way to my post office. RGM, and pretty much everybody else nowadays, emails you their tracking numbers.
