Can anyone tell me where the Slide Cutaway number is measured from? I've currently got a No 3 cutaway and want to try a 3.5.
My Idea is to alter the other No 3 that I have sitting doing nothing to the dimensions of a 3.5, if someone has a 3.5 or a 4 that they can give me sizes from I'll have a wee bash at altering my spare No 3 to suit.
Ok buying a 3.5 would be easy but why not have a wee go with a half round file and a bit of fine emery ?

Each full point in the cutout = 1/16", so put slide on flat surface and see how that's measured to come out right. Often a #3 is used to make up for worn bores air leaks. New anodized slides are about $50 shipped if it don't work out well as hoped.

+1 the new hard anodized slides. Sure resolved my inconsistent idle problems on my commando.

My Idle isn't the problem, and the carbs are new items with only 200miles on them so sloppy slides are not an issue. I'm just trying to get the mixture correct, I've changed the main Jet and played with the needle height and ended up back where I started so the next step is to open up the cutaway.
1/16" per full number so 1/32" is just a shave with a file then, certainly worth a bash.

Yes don't take much to change the mix down low so let us know what you discover taking little file strokes off towards best joy. Once you find a good compromise or optimal cut out, still good id to get the Anodized slides with that cut out to preserve your carb joy or the good tune will sour away in bores and slides after too short a time.
