I am going to order up a couple of Amal rebuild kits and I would like confirmation on the correct parts. I am looking at the RKC/564 major repair kit and it asks for the following info; main jet, needle jet and pilot jet sizes. http://www.amalcarb.co.uk/ProductCatego ... rentId=231

I referred to the technical page here and it list the following for the 71:

Needle jet- .106

main jet-220

Does this model have a pilot jet, if so what size?

Any reason to deviate from the stock jetting?

Thanks in advance!
Gary

The pilot jets are pressed in and cannot be easily replaced, that's why they aren't required. Have a look at bushman's amal stuff, you'll find the web address on this site.

Why not check what's fitted, before ordering?

Yes, my needle and jet setup was not stock, I just used what was in it and it seems fine. Either someone played and changed it or the factory didn't put standard stuff in it, I don't know.

RCK 564 is for MKII amals which were not original on 71 commando..... try RCK561 for MKI concentrics
reason to change from change from original jets? the main reason is we now get E10 for fuel

Hi Dave

Speaking of E10, to compensate - go to a larger main jet size? My '72 has original 230 mains, maybe go to 240. The fuel is really a pain. :(

I'm running 180 mains and 105 needle jets in my 750, 200 mains and 106 needle jets in my 850. This is at 5000 ft. base elevation however. The 750 is still a little rich at 3/4 - full throttle when riding above 10,000 ft. I might try 170s.

MK1, MK2 its all the same to me at this point and exactly why I am asking questions. So how do I compensate for the E10, I am at sea level?

Hey T95,
Your bike should have Mk1 carbs, ( bolt on, round float bowl).
If it has Mk2s' ( rubber flange and squareish float bowl), then they have been changed.
Did you find me any Flying boots yet. How's the 5 o'clock beer going.
AC.

I know I'm resurrecting an old topic but I'm going to rebuild the carbs on a '71 750 with 12,000 miles that has sat for 30 years. I wanted advice on the proper main jet and needle jet. I'm ordering this kit:

http://amalcarb.co.uk/mk1-concentric-60 ... grade.html

I'm planning to order the kit with the .106 needle and 220 main jets as described above by the OP. Can somebody confirm that this is the right setup and more than likely the best bet for my purposes?

Yes, the .106 needle jet and 220 mains are correct (standard sizes) for your 1971 model unless you intend to ride it above 4,000 ft.
"No jet required" for the pilot option.
