Made my first English key to get the carbs off after my new to me MkIII sat for several years.

Can these bowls with the fuel inlet corrosion be reused or time for new?

Main jet needle on one side stayed down when the slide came out so I suppose that's why the PO took the air box off and let it sit.

Thanks!

you can probably make them work. The seal is on the base where you see the bright spot. But. I would check all the other surfaces, channels & vents... all the holey bits
Make sure the base gasket doesn't leak. change the needles and needle jets....that's an automatic. You need to check the slide for wear. If bad then re sleeve.

The simplest way is to replace them with a pair of the new Premier type Amal carbs especially if other parts of them (normally the slides are worn in bodies for example) need attention also. That way many future issues could be avoided.
The corroded spigot locates the filter inside the banjo but the seal area around the spigot looks ok so it may still work. The needle issue may be as simple as the retaining clip as failed. So really before making your mind up check the condition of all aspects of both carbs then of course your personal preference and budget may help you decide the way to go.

The fuel Banjo seals against the flat surface around the fuel inlet, not the raised part that looks deformed, so that part looks good. The bowl drains look good too.

Take a sheet of 220 grit sandpaper and lay it on a sheet of glass. Take each bowl and stroke them (bowl down) on the sandpaper/glass surface lightly to see how flat the bowl's rim surfaces are. The ears of the bowl where the screws hold the bowl up against the carburator get bent over time and make it hard to seal the bowl against the carb. If you reflatten the bowl, it will seal more easily again when you reinstall it.

Thanks for the quick replies.. Bike only has 7,800 miles. I'll check out the rest as you've suggested…
