Gents,

Sir Comstock treated my cylinder head with what he describes thus:

"I use a ball mill. It's a vibratory deburring machine with non-abrasive 4mm ceramic balls that peen the surface. Most often used for jewelry but on a larger scale"

The finish is awesome, and anyone in the US wanting a good finish to cases, heads etc should send them to Jim!

Next time my engine is down I would like to do the cases ec as well, but I'm in the UK, so, does anyone know of a trusted provider of such services here in the UK?

No, but a large plastic tub inside a neutered tumble dryer with appropriate media will do the job.

This bloke does the same. He is pricey but truly exellent. He has a web site giving full details.

Thanks again Martyn !

@ Kommando... I use the dishwasher and oven on occasions for bike stuff and get away with that. However, your suggestion might be too much for sustained marital harmony I fear...!

I was at the classic car show in Birmingham (UK) a couple of years ago and saw a guy offering a service that polished steel components (gears and the like) by putting them in a tumbler with some steel balls. The polished finish was good for reducing friction "he claimed" and the bits looked awesome but who sees them once they are inside the cases? Needless to say it wasn't cheap.
