Why doesn't Sparx or someone make an externally excited field alternator and be done with the hocus pocus.
No high DC voltage to contend with,
Three wires: to field, DC out and ground.
Transistorize regulator/rectifier could be small enough to mount inside the chain case
Smalll size high output - 15V plus and gobs of current available at idle and any rpm.

Hey hobot? Some beer, some copper wire, a hammer, some beer, some time...who knows? Maybe you could achieve a brain frequency resonance without the use of fixed magnets and blow up dolls but, instead, through the wonderment of self-excitement, brain pharts and stripped timing case screws achieve a kind of fluxual harmony with the universe and deer. A contribution and existance of harmony for your soul. We're talking nirvana with no little electrons shoved through some diode door (backwards, I might add.) only to find themselves in an aluminum dissappation chamber...we all know what happens there. It's been a hot topic more than once. Yes a system that gives you all you could ever need at any speed and never waste a single sine wave. Maybe it could cure high-speed brain wobbles and you could quit your dayjob and write for a living.

As Indian Larry so elequently put it "Who knows..."

Mike, with elequent writing like that, I believe you and Hobot are long lost brothers.

Obviously Hunter S. Thompson isn't dead, he just went into hiding. I knew his love of cafe bikes would eventually draw him back out.

Must come from many years of riding alone, a mastering of motorcycles and the art of mental Intercourse. Fluxable and externally self excited of course.

And then again, you could just be tripping.

Indian Larry was killed after yelling hey watch this and landed on his bare head. Hunter got neck/brain stem decayed and lost his mind sitting at 'puter and gritting his teeth till he lost his mind and blew it open. I have lucked out to avoid dying but head injury or by my own hand and Norton are a big reason I can ignore the static inside.

I hung out with the DIY windmill generator crowd found by sourcing super magnets. They use a flat disc coil arrangement with magnets on one of both sides. Their trouble is limiting power in high winds or burns up the wires. In a cycle we'd have same trouble to make power to idle yet not burn up at speed.
They do this by feathering windmill as ain't a good way to cut coil copper power with magnetic flux in their faces. Because of Drouin I designed one that was thin enough and out do factory or spark, but would be very expensive and tricky and cooling a big issue. I gave up and will install a DENSCO 3 wire field induction to make up to 600 watts even at idle. Peel must be winter ridable.

Some day they will have thermo electric exhaust installs then the header fracturing will be our main compliant d/t the extra mass but lights will be
bright hehe, if ya can keep rpms up enough for the heat, ugh. Supercapasitors and hydrogen fuel cells will solve out issues eventually but by then may be illegal to run a non carbon compliant cycle.

The AC generation I speak of does not have to deal with high output. There is only an output when the battery drops below a predisposed value. When battery voltage is applied to the field windings spinning inside the stator you create a magnetic field just like the magnets, but when the battery is charged the field circuit opens and you get near 0vac stator output. There's the beauty you never make more than you need and can go full tilt at idle. Cars have been this way for a long time.

You're so right, Larry had already rode up and down the paddock standing on the seat and decided to do it one more time...hmmm.where have I heard that before?

Mr Thompson, he was used up alright. But then couldn't we be just someone's computer game, I mean if we were, would we know? Probe the abstract I say and spend those braincells - leave nothing good for the vultures.

I liked his books because I always figured, if I ever really understood the totality of his diatribe, I too would be a looney toon or one who is educated beyond his/her own intelligence. What happens if you get to the last level? That maybe the wonder of the universe.

The windmill guys don't often have much power to spare to excite their coils so most go for the permanent magnets and use heat sinks to dump excess over what they can use or store in hi times. Some have made similar field coil with adjustable flux as you state but its way more complex especially to size them for home power use.

I can too well relate to both Larry and Hunter, it scares me to point of trembling or jerking up short at times and even yelling out at the shock they were as right on target of what to do with life as the saints and sages. What Hunter describes, jumping the Ducati skewing sidesways in air over RR tracks is what I call phase 4 handling glee on Ms Peel, when I can see far enough ahead to get away with it.
I almost shot myself after 120 Ninja dump on head and twice after Trixie deer strike. I know what its like to almost loose one's mind and reflex reaction to end the pain. Toughest things I've ever done starting in childhood was just to continue living. Then we die so WTF it matter but stay as high as ya can and take as many with ya as ya can. Red Sausage Monster lurks in every living thing.
How many dead friends and family whisper in you ear as you crank up throttle and start loosing traction and your grip on Earth.
