After seeing another member use an alternate dust boot I started doing some searching and came up with this.

A full kit, with double wipers on both the seal and dust seal. The seal is a drop in item.

The dust seal needed a little time on the lathe to modify the leg top collar and voila!

Alternate fork seal and dust boot.

Beautiful,
Where can I buy?
You think I can rechrome the stanchions or is it better to buy new?
P.s.: you have to sell a dunstall fairing mount?

I would get new tubes, the expense and hassle of re chroming would not be worth it.

As for the fairing bracket, once I get mine mounted and I am happy with it, I will make up a few sets to sell. This will be a winter project.
I did stumble apon a set of real lower brackets that mount the sides to the tank bolts.

Really nice mod.
I suppose the long rubber gaiters could still be used if desired for the look.

Yes, boots could be used, this mod would be the best, a wiper covered by boots, double protection.

I have ordered 2 more sets of the seals to do my other Nortons. They are available on ebay for about $30.

I have often noticed that when tubes rust up, it is generally at the dust cover area. This, of course, is the major wear point at which the chrome wears off the most.

Anyhow, as with the iso boots, the dust covers on the fork tubes can also trap moisture.

This mod could really help in this area and I think i will give it a go later this winter.

I have saved the link to this item. I think the company may have a run on this partiular part number. 0407-0086

The great thing is the kit covers oodles of brands, models and years of bikes. So availability will be good for years to come.

The Honda fork tube oil seals 91255-KBH-003 were used on many models over a long period of time.

The seals need their OD slightly reduced in order to fit into the slider.
The dust seal modification to fit into the screwed collar has got to be better than the hard plastic original.
As noted the hard plastic will tend to wear the fork tube plating.

I just purchased 2 of the moose racing sets for my stock, at $15 each shipped :D . I am going to modify my Hyde brace for one set. The Other one will eventually make its way onto the combat.

Dear Bowfile,
the dual seil lip to order for commando are "INSIDE DIAMETER 35MM
OUTSIDE DIAMETER 48.15MM" ?

Please, could you post some photos of the dunstall fairing mount and the lenght of this item, so i can hand made it.

All the fork tubes I have around here measure at 34.6mm, so with the squish built in, the 35mm seals fit good.

The factory seal has over a 2mm squish built into it.

The outside diameter of the factory lower fork seal is 47.75mm. Inside is 32.5mm lower lip and 33.5mm. upper lip.

Please note the factory seal outside diameter is bare metal, so there is no give to it. the replacement Moose racing ones have a rubber sealing surface.

All of the seals inside daiameter is smaller than the actual intended size to allow for constant tension on the sealing surface.

Thanks, good to know and a clever solution! BTW if you don't run gaiters but need more protection for the seals in winter, on muddy rides, etc. Shock Sox work well and easy to install or remove, they wrap around the forks and are secured w/ velcro.
(I was riding my gaiterless DR650 on a dirt road recently and got mud splashed on my forks and the seals started leaking, was able to fix the leaks by cleaning the seals with 35mm film and the Sock Sox have prevented more leaks in the meantime)
