Gday JD
Wondering how it performs with those FCR's, same jetting it came with? I notice that you've got a balance tube, was this done to get it to idle sweet , I see Jim recommends this be done as well?

Now what's with those scruffy lower frame rails :!: :!: :!:

Seriously, your bike looks fantastic, bravo.

I went through the bike front to back. Disassemblig cleaning, renewing, reassembling each part / system one at a time. The bike was never completely taken apart. No chance for me to look at boxes in the garage and feel overwhelemd. It was always recognizable as a motorcylce. For me the patina on the frame was good enough to not warrant a "frame off" resoration. It would only get scuffed up again. This way, if I buggered something up and scratched the frame, I wouldn't go into cold sweats over the thing.

Thanks for the compliment.

JD

p.s. do you know when the Alton E start will be in general distribution?

You have done a great job and should be proud of your handy work, all you need to do now is enjoy riding it and get some road grime on it

Have fun with it and ride safe.

Looks great. A lot of hours have obviously gone into that. You should be very proud.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with the FCR's. Are there any other engine mods?

Just a thought, but the oil pipes from the cooler may benefit from protectors being fitted where they cross the frame. I suspect that left like this, if you ride it enough they could possibly wear through at some point?

Hi Jeff, Are you running one of these? And if so, what unit are you using and where is it mounted?

The Lockhart cooler I'm using has a thermostat built in. That's why I chose that particular piece as it was a nice clean "all-in-one" solution. It's a new/old/stock that was for a Harley.. Lockhart was blowing them out on eBay direct from factory in a generic "white box". see link:

Not being negative but the position of your oil cooler scares me, good looking tidy up though

low mounts have been used for a long while on other bikes with nary a problem. Front mudgaurd flap should protect from thrown up rock and gravel, and there is enough flex in the hose length for engine / subframe movement. I was thinking about fabbbing up a metal mesh cover to slip over it. I think the only way to really bugger it up is to take the bike on a Trials competition and do some rock and fallen tree climbing :) The close up shots do make it look more vulnerable than it really is.

Easy enough to keep an eye on tho.

I picked up this oil cooler off the bay pretty cheap. I might install it this winter.
It's machined billet, sturdy and light.

Eyes decieve....yes Keihin FCR Flatslides, but on the air filter.... I cut the perferated metal surround by about 3/8" and found a shorter K&N filter, but I also applied some tricks on the manifold side. About 1/8" off of the end of each manifold and using spigots from Sudco for a Yamaha Raptor instead of the ones supplied with the "off the shelf" kit (that gave another .25" off the length). I also used my own rubber connector. That gave me a total of about a 1/2" shorter runner length (we'll se how that translates into any noticable performance offset). After everything installed, I probably could have gotten away with the standard thickness air filter and perferated surround. Plenty of room to r & r the filter.

Very clean job!
I also had to shorten the manifolds to free the top of the FCR's from hitting the frame. Even had to replace the righthand fuel tap 1" to the front of my steel Roadster tank to prevent the throttle linkage hitting the tap. Do you have enough clearance between the linkage and the tap?? Don't worry about any performance offset due to the shorter manifolds my Commando's performance is great, I love that FCR kit!
