Need to get the center stand on so that I can fix the starter oil leak and so it will take up less space in my garage. Uh, because I don't have enough room for another bike.

the center stand is off for a REASON, if it is ridden aggressively it will drag and lift the rear wheel!!!

Eh, they say that about the Commando one too. I guess I don't ride hard enough.

I need the center stand so I can park it upright in the garage, there isn't enough room to put all the bikes on side stands. Plus it will make it easier to work on the bike too.

Get a garage stand instead of using that center stand. You'll probably find yourself riding much more quickly on that Allazurra. There is a reason most people take that stand off.

Here's a good one: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/ ... Stand.aspx

Thanks for the concern. I assume you're not familiar with the Alazzurra center stand but you can see here that if the center stand hits the ground you have way bigger problems. :|

you have been warned twice!!! a very good friend had one and almost tossed his away because of that stand. the only reason he saved it was he is a very competent rider and had some road left to save it.

I have no experience with these bikes, but the picture would be more telling if the rear suspension were compressed.
SInce the centre stand pivots somewhere near the swing arm pivot compressing the rear will lever the stand closer to the road. At least that's how i rationalised it on my Multistrada before upgrading the rear. Grinding centrestands must be a consistent Ducati design feature.

It's very easy to lean them over because they are so thin and they feel so solid when leaned over.. Of course the solution is to know when you are riding a bike with a center stand and not to lean too much. This apparently didn't occur to a previous owner of this bike as the center stand was bent badly and the left side of the bike has some rash. I have no interest in riding these old bikes at anywhere near their limits, I'd be way more worried about hitting the center stand on the Norton.

Don't get a sidestand on the Pantah at all Dave, and never even got close to touching down the centre stand, but then it doesn't have that bloody great footpedal sticking out the side!

i just looked at your stand fitted.
Maybe just change the pedel bit to the same as a Pantah, I've never heard of a Pantah stand digging in. They scrape, but that's over a fair way too.

I reckon by the time it scrapes Graeme, you've fallen off and are sitting on the side of the road cursing! Well maybe that's just me and my wussey riding capabilities.
Want me to grab a piccy of mine Dave? I think you could trim it back a bit and have a left-over pedal to bung on some other project.

I'd love a pic.

I can easily see how an aggressive rider could drag any side or center stand. But I'm not that kind of rider. There is a long list of things that will kill you on a bike but the center stand is the least of my worries. But I appreciate all the concern.

I have to agree with Davamb about the center stand.
Maybe it's the side stand that touches down first? I've never seen a side stand on a Pantah so I can't comment.
My Mk3 is terrible for waking you up in the twisties, side stand on the left and header on the right. That is way more prone to lifting a rear wheel than any Ducati I've ever owned.

Hey Dave,

this shot is looking straight down on the stand from over the seat:

(Even managed to find an imperial ruler for you.)
Can grab some other angles if it's of any help.

The width between the feet would be great. I had someone measure it at 12in from the outside of the feet on his Ally, wonder if it's the same on the Pantah.

Yep, that looks about right. Probably the same assembly, just with that strange pedal welded on instead of the ball.

My Darmah has a stand like the one with the ruler...but the sticky out bit came unattached....I always meant to weld it back....now I don't think I'll bother....easy enough just to put your boot on the stand foot. The Darmah is a weighty beast and I have never even scraped the pegs on it.....more suited to loooong sweepers than the tight stuff. You have picked up some nice Italian bikes there Swoosh.
