I has seen here in various places that BMW Airhead wrenches fit Norton exhaust nuts. Will they fit both 750 and 850 styles?

Thanks
Russ

some may, but my old Luftmeister wrench does not work on my 850 because the fins are not the same all the way around like a BMW exhaust nut....there is a thick section in about three places IIRC and my wrench is designed to engage about half the fins

I guess you could in theory file out some of the teeth on the airhead wrench to fit over the wide spots on the 850 nut, but of course this would make it more difficult to find a sweet spot to rotate with any leverage. The fins on the 850 are a bit different in shape as well. I suppose the other option if you were determined to use one of these wrenches would be to fit 750 nuts on the 850 head.

Just wondering as I was looking at these on Ebay:

The price is reasonable and they appear to be a well made wrench. I am going to have to take a better look at my 850 nuts, but it is still dark out, about zero degrees and I haven't wanted to venture outside yet.

I have a left over air head exhaust wrench from my '83 R100RS that I have been using since '86 on Commandos. It works best on the 850 type nuts, but still works marginally for 750.
