Neoprene transmission outer cover gasket purchased through RGM was too soft, eventually squeezed out, and leaked.

I did. RTV does not stick to rubbery material very well.

ATF or Motor Oil? ATF expands seals as part of its function. Perhaps the material, though fine with oil, does not react well with ATF and expands too much.

If you true the outer cover, it will not leak with the oem O-ring, no sealant needed.

Oops - disregard, you said transmission; I was thinking chaincase. (I couldn't delete this post - sorry)

The teflon-impregnated gaskets seem to work the best, but even they will leak eventually. A leaky gasket on a Norton is just a reminder to do scheduled maintenance!

I tried them on the rocker covers, never worked out for me so I stick to the originals, I've only had gearbox leaks when a screw has come loose, other than that always dry.
