On my i phone it sometimes is so bad with the posts jumping up and down it is unreadable. Also at times there are adds beside each post.
 
Seeing a bunch of ads beats having a gun held against the side of your head and a friendly request to join the club. I think I like the ads. Retirement in Costa Rica looks good. :)

Ads here are not much different in principle than the ads you see on Youtube or Facebook. Like on those sites, everyone contributes content to build the site. Either it supports itself by showing you ads or you pay the fee not to see them, like YT Premium. There is a choice. Actually, many of the best contributors to this site are not VIP members.

I switched to https://duckduckgo.com/app?va=b&t=hc
several months ago ( because another forum I use was purchased by Vertical Scope and is SELLING our content) .
All ads are blocked. And your personal info is blocked too .
Try it. A far better alternative to the commy browsers originally loaded on those devices.

I was a member of a forum that got sold to Vertical Shite, who then also sold off the motorhome and camping parking details to Garmin.
Somehow or other I am designated as a life member and don’t pay any fees, but I don’t go there to post any longer, solely just to see if I’m still ‘free’. I also don’t get to see the adverts either - strange, but whenever the mods dealt with VS they had great difficulty dealing with them
 
My complaint is NOT the adds as I understand why they are there. My complaint is just how intrusive they have become for non vip members. I am trying duck duck go now and so far it is an improvement.
 
BRAVO...I ment BRAVE is another good search engine that i use along with D...D...GO
Both are heaps better than....
Google scrub information links off their search platform (factual info) and share your data.

I have been approached more than once to sell this forum to companies that are only interested in making money. The ads would be much worse if I sold out. I am not planning on selling. One day though I will retire and have to find someone else, younger to run it.

I feel like the VIP and ads is a must to continue and not lose money. The site is now way over 40GB and lots more members, some of who are continually out of control. That requires attention, not only in programming time, updates etc. but also in forum user management. I am upside down on hardware and time investment. Wish I could get rid of the ads too. Its only $3.25 a month to remove the ads and you get more. Its sounds pretty reasonable to me. I have a full time job as well and the forum management is always cutting into that. It gets annoying sometimes.

I checked and it looks like Google ads defaulted to more ads. I reduced the amount for non logged/ registered in users, I think.

The 50 CND for the VIP is worth not having all the annoying ads. And a small price to pay for the wealth of info that one cannot find in the manuals, only found with experience. This forum has definitely been my best tool being somewhat of a newbie with the Commando.
 
It's interesting, that of all the topics on the 1st page of this forum, for some reason this particular topic “Adverts” would not open with my Chrome browser until I turned off Adblock Plus (free add blocker). Never had any topic blocked prior to this one.

Chrome = Google, Google = Ads. It's in Google's interest to stop you from using an Ad Blocker. I don't know if they do or if it is on purpose, but it's something to think about.
