Happy Thanksgiving, all.

For those of you not watching football, yesterday we had a bit of fun at the shop with the DWS 1007cc Seeley (it's a streetbike!):

Wow didn't realize you guy's are racing streetbikes these days

What I want to know is how much do I have to save to get one of those frames? Fk'n sweet!

i passed this on to other cycle lists and cycle friends to savor teeth gritting Rip Roaring Lurching!

"No horsepower or torque numbers yet, but once the motor is broken in we will spin it up and get some readings. Check back soon."

Still heat cycling and retourquing, then refine jetting and then whip it, whip it good.

Matt, reality check time, they would likely ask for an insurance excess deposit 1st...unless you got in on the basis of a referral from this forum...L.O.L.

in general Norton race engines seem to make about 10-11 hp over the cc size, ie: Maney says his 920 showed 100.4 hp/7200. This implies the 1007 is worth ~110-115 rwhp and maybe another 10+ at crank. This is music to my ears as Peel's 920 engine is race level built and Drouin can pump in another 50+% more cc's capacity,ie: like 1500 cc worth. Of course there's need of race level drive train to take it. Drag racers said AMC box spills its guts with about 100 hp level launches. I can just imagine the eyeball peeling pull this 1007 gives the grinning dry month pilot.

Hi

Further to Hobots mention of power train/gearbox. My friend Rob told me that the motorcross sidecar racers (from Kent) used big bore 920/960 engines standard chain primary & 4 speed box but with an outrigger that weighed several pounds & was in fact a completely fabricated & welded up outercover in steel. I have been unable to find a photograph but Rob said it helped enormously as up until then, they rebuilt the box after every meeting & always carried a couple of spare boxes with them.
Two people on a sidecar, over loose ground & small jumps with 60 plus horsepower & lots of grunt must have tested every part of the drive.

Chris

Oh cool Chris Peel has Maney outrigger so my AMC gear guts may actually hold up with a light bike/pilot with some throttle/clutch sense. Side cars fascinate me and definitely need all the big block torque they can get. Its a thrill of life time to nail throttle and barely be able to hang on, especially while leaning good. Hope it holds up and keeps wining our Norton hearts.

Yes Sir a beautiful object with plenty of holey style potential. Btw belt drives weakness is abrasion of the edges that then lets them UNraveal pretty much all at once, once some threshold reached. I made that outrigger seal out water & grit in Ms Peel. Consider how you might do that when creating the outrigger to primary case clearance, whether you need to or not. Reports of big blocks tearing up 40 mm belt drives leaves me pensive enough I'm leaving Drouin oil seals intact for chain gang back up plan B.

Since the Isle of Man sidecar racers are limited now to 600cc, these poor little things are howling particularly on the long haul up the mountain. On the bottom part of the circuit they are flat out in top for about ten miles. No mechanical sympathy shown. Awesome.

Good point about real racers having really hardened their mechanical hearts to hold WOT on and on and on... I wonder if I'm built for it plenty of times and wonder when I sure won't be. Kennie's dyno run actually hurts me to fully take it all in so do the long run his videos show. I sense insides like blacksmiths having a drum fest.
