A question about the Interstate left side cover

Thanks. That makes sense. Does the hole in the side cover end facing the rear use the pointed pin welded to the frame to attach the cover to the bike at this point? What attaches to the dzus anchor 064066 and what does the panel fastener 064975 go into after going through the side cover hole?

I think the rear peg is the standard 061204 bolt-on bracket? http://www.nortonmotors.de/ANIL/Norton% ... 014&Part=7 -Item [7].

The Dzus anchor clips into the rectangular hole in the curved bracket fixed to the L/H end of the "A" battery tray.

The Dzus anchor.

Thanks so much for the step by step. That is all crystal clear now. I have just a couple of observations:

1) Not that it really matters since I am going to fab something, but my battery tray is 90 degrees different. Is my battery tray not stock or is it different in different models?

2) My bike has two welded pins for securing the rear face of the left side cover. My welded top pin looks to be in nearly the correct location for the hole in my side cover. The cover has no boss to strenghten that hole but should it work just to use the rubber bushing and the welded pin as is for that hole?

The A model (Mk1A & 2A) battery tray is a different part to the Mk1 & Mk2 tray, as the battery is turned 90 degrees due to the extra length of the A model black airbox and the subsequent need for the additional Dzus mounting bracket.

Possibly? As you are attempting to fit a non-standard "A" model cover I think you need to ensure the cover fits without any stress at the mounting points.

I'm not sure about the two "welded" rear pins if you mean they are welded to the frame?

The 061204 bolt-on upper rear pin bracket appears to have been used from '70/'71-on, and the lower pin would normally be attached to a bracket on the 062557 battery tray?

Sorry LAB. You're correct. My top pin is the bolted piece you showed in the diagram you posted and my bottom pin is welded to a piece welded to the battery tray.
