Today, I worked only for myself, No household chores, no client calls. I spent some quality time alone in the shop and completed the front end assembly along with the final assembly of all the braking components on The Beast. I have a few more things to do, like add oil to everything and install the new clutch cable I have on order. (I noticed the clutch cable thread and ordered a Venhill.) But I regress.

After the fender and wheel were on and the brake working I decided that a cleanup was in order. I had music going of course. I have a full PA system in the shop which doubles as the practice space for my son's band and my own band. I like to run my MP3 player through the PA while I work. It sounds like a live band if you really crank it.

I was sweeping out the dead bugs and dirt and I had just got the Norton turned around and the cardboard drip barrier changed when "Born To Be Wild" blasted out of the speakers. I just put my broom down and took a seat. I just sat admiring the Norton while the music played. Then came Janis singing "Piece of My Heart" and then Bob Seger with "Turn the Page." What great songs for a great moment in time. I hope it is a harbinger of good things to come this summer.

A Norton Aah! Moment

Classic British bikes and classic rock and roll are an unbeatable combination.

looking good, love the front brake rotor, (i have the info from the other thread and will be sending my front and rear), also made up my mind about clutch cable brands from the recent thread on that too.....those are good songs, no doubt! Cj

You're dating yourself, but did you have any Everly Brothers?

Hey Dave, I am not sure if the music is as accurate as radio carbon dating for determining age. I was born about ten years too late. I was in high school at the height of the disco craze and Hendrix was long dead when I found his music. I hate to say it but I don't have any Everly Brothers in my play list. They are a little early for me. I like when other artist cover their tunes but I have trouble with the old recordings. (I feel the same way about Sam and Dave.) The old recordings sound really cheesy to me.

Oh. . .my wife got tickled when I told her I changed the cardboard under my Norton. She walked away giggling about "changing the baby."

I am not sure about the black fender stays. They were rusty, like pretty much all the bike. I told my powder coating buddy to shoot them what ever he had going. They shoot a lot of black and I told him black was fine. He was doing it for free (throwing it in with another job) and i didn't want to impose with another set up. Later, when I rework the front fender (more rust) I make have him burn them and coat them silver. For now they are nice and rust free.

In my shed I have the bikes, music and a good beer fridge, what else can one ask for...

Ashley

PS we have the same taste in music, plus Everly Brothers are good as well

ten years after, humble pie, vanilla fudge, stones, and to smooth things out, some moby grape and a little poco.
Detached garage, ka7100, avid 105's, zune, the neighbour hates me and it's mutual.
Lions tigers bushmills and commandos, oh my!
Think warm eh? this freezing stuff is getting old.

I do the same in my shop
Have a couple of early 70's Fender's and a Les Paul copy.
My neighbors across the street don't like me much but the ones next door are over all the time.
Good times
Been listening to a lot of Jeff Beck of late.

Local radio here here can make you mental, I've got XM Radio in the shop, Classic Vinyl channel, it plays the music I heard when I first bought the scoot.....the Norton Soundtrack.

All I have in my garage workshop is an old clock radio. I listen to whatever the local NPR station is playing. :D

Looks like a nice setup, Big Jim! Sure beats working outside in the mud, huh?

I think the black stays look fine. I did mine in black also. Partly that was because the powdercoating shop I used has a $100 minimum charge per color, and I didn't want to pay $100 extra to have a couple of parts done in silver. I had my triple clamps done in black also and I like it.

Just had my front stays and triple trees done in black.
Just preference. I suppose the silver is supposed to
pretend that the pieces are alloy.

I like your black pipes, did you have those powdercoated or purchase them?

Oh. . .the black pipes (cough). . .well you see they are not really black. They are the result of the chrome being totally gone. You can't powder coat an exhaust system but I plan to have those pipes ceramic coated in black next winter.

Debby, I had my triple clamps Powder coated in black and I really like them. I also did the instrument housings as well. Due to the fact that I have spotty rust on fenders, headlight ears, headllight shell, rear brake and foot rests hangers, I have been thinking about blacking those out as well. It is either replace those items, have them chromed or get them powder coated. For me the PC is the cheapest option.

I have just finished my 20'x20' detached shop. It is totally new this year. It has been 17 years in the planning and I love it. I live in the middle of 2 acres and my nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile away. My next closest neighbor is a half mile down the road. I had the band out and we were playing in my shop when the sheriff showed up. He said my neighbors complained that we were too loud. He said he could hear us a mile and a half away. I thought to myself "Cool!" Since then I have hated my neighbors (I have lived here much longer than any of them) and I do not pass up an opportunity to blast music, play drums, rev motorcycles or blow the pipes!

I have been into a Robin Trower type of thing myself.

Robin Trower!!!!!! First concert I ever saw, 1975 Long Beach arena. The album at the time was Bridge of sighs?????? or was close to that time (kinda foggy) We were having loads of fun at the time and smoking funny things, Some kinda green stuff.
