Almost lost a Norton today

You should run a lead from the power pole in the street and attach it to your Norton. That would minimise the risk of theft o a tolerable levl. - Or you could aattached a fully armed crossbow to it's handle bars to make it less desirable.
Vote for the government to employ more cops ?

I've put Apple air tags on all my desirable vehicles, hidden in discrete locations. If something goes missing I've got a reasonable chance of tracking it before they find the tag.
 
Here in Canada using or even showing a shot gun to protect your vehicle from theft will land you in prison .
Pick up the phone and call police is the procedure .
I've worked in security many years here .

Same here in rural Farm area of NC. Sheriff's insist everyone be armed and deal with problems themselves first before calling them. With our current judicial system not working the way it should, and I'm being polite here, I and many others fully support vigilante justice.

The Sheriff's are typically 45 minutes away in any rural community, and when you call them they'll keep you on the phone to report the progress of the situation which is being recorded and is helpful if you have to end up in court. Once they are here, and believe me I've had a few incidents as crime is rising even in rural areas, they'll take over. Our house and my shop where I work on our Farm is located in the middle of over 1000 acres and only one way in or out by vehicle via our private road...

Wow, that's a terrifying world you guys live in. I'm 68 and the only guns I've ever seen were on specially trained police officers, even normal police officers don't need guns.
 
I hide an Apple Airtag in each of my motorcycles. If they move I get a notification on my phone. You can get 4 Air Tags for $100. I label each one with the bike they represent and I keep a stock of CR2032 batteries.

Our founding Fathers when writing the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, unique in the world to the USA, had the foresight to declare an "armed society is a polite society". Every country has it's issues, with corruption in every govt., but at least the 2nd Amendment has kept them at bay, for now, but for sure there are aspiring forces in the USA that want to see more govt. control in the USA as has been introduced onto our friendly neighbors up North who I've worked with and know well.

I don't want to get into politics, because I really don't have a clue about that, but with over 6,000 Americans killed in the last 3 months, all shot by other Americans, it would worry me to be in that environment. But I agree, Americans do all seem to be very polite.
 
Yes you have very relaxed gun laws in the great US of A but you also have the problems of no gun control we see it on the news regularly, how many mass shootings so far this year alone, I for one am glad we have strong gun control laws in Australia, I am not going to get political about it but and we are lucky we don't have many gun problems here, why I have cattle dogs who protect my house hold.

We have been an armed society since the very beginning. Mass shootings, aside frome those perpetrated by orgainized crime, are a fairly recent phenomenon. In the 200 plus years prior guns weren't the problem, now they are the scapegoat. Now the same mentality that makes a person think it's OK to flame someone in anonymity with a keyboard without consequence has manifested itself all too often in the real world. It all comes down to a lack of mutual respect. I'm very glad I grew up in an Era when things weren't so upside down.

If the passion is there, finding a tool (club, sword, knife, arrow) is always going to happen.

The erosion of societies basic values (as mentioned) such as respect, initiative, accountability just to name a few contribute to these people choosing to commit these heinous crimes.
 
I am not going to argue about guns and gun laws we all have our own opinions and we all have our rights to protect our property, we can have our guns here in Aus as long as we are licence and have secure gun safes, here in Aus we don't walk around with loaded guns whether consealed or off our belts, we don't live by the gun here as well in many parts of the world but we do see what is happening over in your part of the world with guns, I grew up with guns both target and hunting, but I don't feel so unsafe I got to carry a gun where ever I go, not here in Australia.
Our problem here these days is youth crime getting out of control mostly breaking into houses and stealing car keys for joy riding, underage kids not old enough to even drive on the road and killing innocent people from losing control because they have no experience, very rare we have gun deaths here and as I say I have my own opinion and I won't say no more, my cattle dogs are good enough for my family and property protection.

It’s just tragic that absence of any real gun control here has given a more readily available weapon to those who have none of these values. Using any other weapon doesn’t have such wide ranging, lethal consequences.
