A Low Blow

My wife loves my bikes and always has since we first met when I had a BSA C15 250cc nigh on 48 years ago (bloody hell that makes me feel old). She’s never ridden, always gone pillion on the back of me, and absolutely loves to go fast. She always complains when I sell one and get something else, especially when I sold ‘her’ orange k8 Hayabusa and got something different. I ended up going out and buying another just to keep her happy “I like to see it in the garage” she told me. I now know how to not upset her, I’ve got my Busa tucked away safely which won’t get sold, and I just chop and change the others. Yesterday I got rid of my Blackbird, and have a recommissioning project in its place that I am doing for a dealer friend of mine. When that goes I wonder what I can get next?

And this from a man too mean to buy a feeler gauge!!! :) :) :)

Oh yes, that. I made it, perhaps I’ll show a pic of it. Not pretty but it works.

Slick,
I like your wife's sense of humor. Keep her.

My second wife married me when I had 11 bikes in the garage. I keep reminding her she should have known what she was getting into. She's awesome and has put up with a lot of shit. If she dropped dead tomorrow, I would not seek another one though. I'd be having too much fun spending the money she left behind.

If she has so much money, and is so awesome, tell her "I love you no shit buy me a new 961"

My wife and I just celebrated our 20th. I was active duty in the Navy when we met and was working on a Suzuki 400 4cyl too so she knew I deployed and rode, (she also has a motorcycle license & rode scooters back in her younger days before I met her). When I was retiring from active duty, I asked her where she wanted to be, since she'd bounced around me while I PCS'd to new duty stations every 3yrs or so. Well, she said that she wanted to go back to Japan. I moved her and the kids from Maryland to Kanagawa Jp, then went contracting down range in Afghanistan to pay the bills. She bought a new cover for my Mklll while I was gone the first time, then said she'd noticed some young guys checking out my bike while I was gone the 2nd time so she bought a snake chain type lock and secured it to the fence out in the front of the house. She's a keeper for sure:).... she used to take me to junk yards in Japan looking for parts for my old NX 650 and would haggle with them!
..... Sorry about son growing up so far from you Slick, definitely not cool on your X's part.

I had a pretty good crash several years ago and my wife's statement was, "that's it no more motorcycles yadda, yadda, yadda" Two weeks later, before being released to return to work , I bought a replacement. A friend and I trailered it home, since I could not yet ride and we unloaded it and parked it in the same spot as it's predecessor. Thee it sat for another two weeks, unnoticed. On the day I received the new exhaust, i was out in the garage putting on the new pipes and she poked her head out and said, after a pause,, "Whose motorcycle is THAT?" I replied, "Mine." I got two days of total silence. it was wonderful.

Celebrated 40 yrs last wk , had a bike when She took a shine to me , still do .... very few negative comments down the years , unless she was concerned about cost , never have heard a no , just “as long as we won’t be short” which can hardly be heard as a criticism .... still laughing after all these years ....

I told my friend I'd sealed the TTI gearbox with Silastic and it has leaked. He said - ' well it IS a British bike'.

Wives should be happy their men have active man-hoods without screwing other women. My wife loves to see me race, because she knows my head will be right for a long time afterwards.. She has a lady competing with her for my affections, but she knows I am going nowhere.
In marriages, you need something just for yourself - motorcycles are good like that. They don't get pregnant when you stuff them.

My wife knows the rules, if I am up in the shed she leaves me alone, works great for me I have my music, beer fridge, bikes, machine shop and every tools I need for working on any bike as well the Norton's, its taken me 44 years to set everything up right and if the shed gets to hot to work in I roll the bikes out under the open cover area where we get a nice cool breeze and if the bike is on the lift table I just roll it out as well, next thing to get is a snooker table for under the open cover area, I just set up a fire pit outside so now can cook with the camp oven on a wood fire and if I run out of beer the wife has no problem going for more, she is a good girl so really I can't complain, except she likes to talk, but hey not everything is perfect ;) for me life couldn't be better and even better when a few mates come around for a few drinks, but one mate just likes drinking my beers, but he hasn't been up for a beer since I told him its his turn to shout the beers .

Hence the saying “Sometimes it’s better to seek forgiveness than permission”...!

Well, I don't seek forgiveness, I just do what I want. Most things don't fall into the realm of causing problems but those that do are what they are. I've never understood guys having to pussy-foot around their wives. When mine climbs up the ladder and tears a few roofs off, when she comes down, we'll talk about the things I do that she doesn't like.

In my first marriage, my wife could not care whether I lived or died. She had been belted by her father when she was a kid. I knew what had happened because her cousin was living with her family at the time. Knowing did not help much. I lived with attitude for 32 years until we both walked away, splitting everything we had right down the middle. No issue was ever resolved - nobody can live with that.
I am now married to a woman I love dearly. We fight, but there is always resolution. She often has a go about me racing - she tells me to get the bike going again - she likes to watch
Yesterday, I made a move. I started working on the Seeley again. The weather is warming up slightly and coronavirus won't last forever.
